Crazy exhibition pieces at an AD
Just saw Batgirl, Batman, Starbucks, Sub, white gold sub with blue dial, Sea Dweller, several Sky Dwellers, Air King and Date Just and one AD in Texas. It almost felt like a normal watch brand you can buy right out of the case for a minute.

Thank god for exhibition models, or I would've never been able to make the most correct decision on what size/model/bracelet was best.

I suspect it would not take too much to get them to sell you one of those watches. I don't believe the market at ADs is as hot as it was just a few months ago. There is a lot of resistance to putting watches back in the cases at the moment as the empty "for sale" cases help maintain the FOMO mentality and local market demand.

I went into my local AD and put in my "interest" for a 126710BLRO, no time frame, but i was amazed at the exhibition of watches on displayed. I was told they all property of Rolex Canada, they don't have the boxes or hang tags, they are not for sale. |

What they said was probably not true. After a period of time, they do sell the exhibition pieces. Kat Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

AD yesterday in the home of the Pittsburgh penguins
I drove over to the AD I usually visit,(48 minute drive) and was able to see full display cases with every sports model, and even a white gold skydweller, two sprites, and a blue dial skydweller, the model I have voiced interest in numerous times.
The only Rolexes for sale were two mother of pearl ladies models. I have purchased 4 watches ,three within the last year, and an expensive Wellendorf ring for my wife. One Rolex ,in 2018, the others were two Tudors, and one bronze monster by Shinola. Maybe I’m just not patient enough but I’ve seen several skydwellers there within the last 6 months including 2 blue dial models. I’m not getting any younger! |

I was at an AD where I got to try an exhibition Deepsea Challenge. They had a ton of exhibition pieces. I think they all come for sale at some point.

The exhibition models eventually do become for sale. I’ve been offered discontinued models that used to be exhibition pieces.

Exactly what I’ve heard, from my SA. They must keep a certain number, and can sell the exhibition pieces, when new stock gets delivered, as long as they replace what they sell, with another Rolex. Kat Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Curious as to why they would have a WG Blue dial as a display only? Those have been discontinued for a while.

Was at my AD last week, exhibition models in every window. Manager couldn’t spend but more than 5 minutes explaining how even the basic DJ models are unobtainable these days. 1 year plus on waitlist for nothing epic, and was hoping for a purchase for me and the Mrs anniversary. Next day, purchased my second gray watch thanks to sellers on TRF. Two new watches for me and the wife. Bye bye AD wait list.

A sign of things to come. This time next year most of those will be at 10% OFF MSRP.

My UK AD, we popped in the other week to get some valuations, and they had 0 watches on display. Just loads of empty cases.

At least anyone can go to their nearest AD to try on the watch they want before buying in the Grey Market, since AD’s don’t have anything available For Sale…. Facts!!

I went into my AD last year and looked at a watch which was one of the 'Exhibition Only' pieces and my AD said I could buy it if I wanted to. I bought it, they fetched the box and papers and completed the sale. The exhibition only pieces are purchased by the AD's and are not the property of Rolex. They are contracted to have a minimum amount of various watches on display as exhibition pieces so customers can physically see them and try them on. End of story. |

I agree that the exhibition pieces seem to be getting more interesting. Was all DJs a year ago.

WOS Hudson Yards had 3 Sea Dweller 43 in stainless on display haha makes zero sense but I’m assuming they are required to display a certain amount of watches at all times so some may actually be for sale pieces once a replacement display piece come in.

A year ago, there were no watches for sale in SF, just a small amount of exhibition only pieces, which were marked, as such. My local AD had a few ladies’ models for sale, the smaller ones, which were not to my taste. At least now, we get to try on some nice pieces. I need to stop in and order the Datejust I want, for Christmas. I am still torn between mint green and the Wimbledon. Kat Kat Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Welcome to modern Rolex. Just sit back and wait a year or so, the ADs will be singing a different tune.

I was offered exhibition pieces last weekend, along with a wink from the AD manager. It does appear that they can be made for sale "at the AD discretion". I think we will be hearing much more about this topic, as exhibition stock is still a relatively new concept.
