Slight GMT 2c malfuntion...(date wheel)

Hey kids,

Just got a brand new GMT 2C right out of the box. I've been wearing it for 48 hours. I just noticed last night that at midnight, the date attempts to change and sticks half way. Then, when it gets to 2AM, its completes the change. So I manually twirled the hands around and around and the first couple of times it stuck and then it started changing like it should fully right at midnight. Should I take it in for service or is this common.

I am not sure of the exact terminology and explanation of what its happening (Larry will know), but that should it shoud be brought in and can be easily adjusted.
On a side note, Congrats on the GMT IIC!

I had my AD send my GMTIIC off under warranty for service because of the same thing.. I should have it back later this month... Hopefully RSC Dallas fixes it right

I do not remember who, but someone here gave a reasonable explanation of this happening on brand new watches, and to just give it some time to allow for wheels or oils or something else to settle in.

It is not unheard of, but give it a couple of days before sending it away.

And: Given the behaviour you described it sounds like I remember it.

Good luck!

Best,

A

I waited 5 months for the date to function right, and it never did.. So it may be more of an adjustment issue.. Just my two cents

Mine still moves to the next number at midnight, didn't have the problem of getting stuck.

I also had this problem, took back to my local AD and they (master rolex jeweler) had it 3 days and fixed it just perfectly. Date flips immediately as it should now. I believe it was too much oil on something making it stick rather than not enough if I remember correctly...

Congrats on the new watch, and good luck

It is extremely common........... Here is my theory...

There are way too many who send their watch in for unnecessary service over this..

It is likely that the oil used when assembled has settled under the date wheel....when it flicks over, it drags on the oil...

The fix is to take the watch apart, wipe the oil off the back of the date wheel, reassemble it, and send it back to you

However, the oil is not doing any damage and will likely re-disperse itself after a bit of time.....

It has happened to me once. I reset the watch and it hasn't done it since. Larry is spot on.

Exactly what Larry mentioned above is what my AD said to me was happening. Easy fix (for them anyway). I am just amazed at the wealth of knowledge in this forum every time I log in, you guys are amazing assets!
