They no longer fit what Rolex was looking for in an AD.
More doors will be cut. Less is more in Luxury. This is the way. |

AD's dropped have happened all across the land, let alone the globe. Many fine family AD's are truly out in the cold for the loss. I sympathize with many of the AD's as small businesses with decades of loyalty to the crown having the rug pulled. It is a community loss not just a customers. Spend too much time here and it sounds like perhaps some Rolex customers might be on the selfish side.

I remember that was my go to watch shop back in the 90s on Canal Street. I bought a Cartier Pasha and a Breitling Astro chronomat. I always remember Coleman Adler as a nice gentleman. I think Adam was my salesman but I could be wrong. Anyway the salespeople was always professional and went above and beyond. I am sorry to see them go. They were an institution in the New Orleans metro area.

Adam has been a personal friend since long before he sold watches. He's an amazing, honest, hard working person. He served his country with honor and distinction before he got in this business. Defaming him on an anonymous bulletin board shows what little character some people have.

Adler’s has been my least favorite AD. They’ve lost all their luxury brands one by one for a reason. Without these brands they will be in trouble.

Over 10 years ago, Laviano Jewelers in Westwood, NJ was a Rolex AD and then no more. They had to be one of the longest standing AD's Rolex had. Rolex probably wanted the "boutique" in the store. To do so they would have had to build out, take over next door space which was not available, so they lost their AD status. Was kind of sad.

Rolex makes the decision to close the AD.
Even stores that have submitted plans for re-design have gotten the letter. These fine folks don’t even bother with a call. My personal AD got the letter during Covid. |

To your point - maybe the Rolex Section Stays the same - but main section of the store is being totally redone. More dedicated space to GS, Tag, Oris, Tissot, Brietling & Jewelry. I think they are supposed to be done in June or so. If you are in the area - I highly recommend them. (Sorry to the OP for hi-jacking this thread a bit)

Like it or not, this is what great brands due and how they stay "great"
I remember watching a Hodinkee talking watches with the outgoing AP CEO and he made it clear that one of the most important things (in the mid 2000's) they did as a brand was, besides get watches on the wrist of "influential" celebrities and business leaders, to greatly cut down the points of sale (AD Doors). Too much distribution is toxic in this space. Rolex feels they have too much distribution and they will eliminate those that don't fit in anymore. It feels ruthless, I know, but so is consumer sentiment. Look as recently as Grand Seiko.....market darlings just a few years ago...but they overproduced and over distributed their position and the market is making them pay with sudden indifference. It doesn't take much to tip the balance and it can happen very quickly. |

I walked into Adlers just yesterday unaware of the Rolex status but I took a “lap” around the showcases and saw 3 “Estate” preowned wristwatches, 2 of which were ladies pieces. It’s a shame that a former Patek and Rolex dealer in such a wonderful location is from what I can tell now, a “jewelry store”…. I wish them well.
In NOLA, Valobra Jewelers on Royal Street has some of the best preowned wristwatches that you’ll find. Rolex, Patek, Breguet, IWC, Ulysse Nardin, A.Lange, and they are a Franck Muller authorized dealer. I viewed some amazing pieces there a couple days ago. |

With less retail outlets the used prices will stay strong or rise further. This encourages retail buyers to sell and drives more and more customers to the used markets as there are fewer and fewer retail outlets.

THANK YOU!!! I completely understand the magnitude of the accusations I’ve made public but I 100% stand by them. I did business with Adler’s and Lee Michaels for years before the Rolex hype train came along and they are now but a shell of what they once were. Dealers that participate in these shady practices and dishonor the relationships that were made prior to these crazy times deserve to be named and shamed!
