116500 largely due to case shape. I can see how symmetry of 12xxxx is good, but the 11xxxx asymmetry never bothered me. I’m still a bit disappointed that I’ll never own the 116500 owing to reluctance to pay secondary prices (I know this makes no sense).

I think it makes total sense. I’m sorry you were not able to get the 116500, it’s a grail watch for me and I would not trade it for a 126…

Anybody own both the 11 and 12 series in White at the same time? Not talking about trading one for the other.

How did you justify keeping both, if so?

After acquiring the 126519, I can confidently say the 126 series offers substantial improvements. However, the 116500 with a white dial is simply stunning; the bezel stands out more prominently. Yet, I find the thinner sub-dials quite unappealing in comparison.

So, for the “Panda” white dial you prefer the 11?

Looks pretty much the same to me, prefer the 116500, with slightly more contrast but otherwise can’t go wrong either way. Each has their own pros, imagine the original has historical importance, as the first SS ceramic Daytona, also one that is or was among the most highly sought after watches.

In 10 years (or less) people will look back at this poll and will be shocked that it was so close. 116500LN is a classic and is already closing the price gap in the secondary market. Anyone who trades a 11 for 12 will deeply regret it.
Wondering whether 116520 vs 16520 was the same when the 116520 just came out… imagine trading in a 1988 16520 for a 116520…

The 116 white will always be THE ORIGINAL SS Ceramic Daytona that started Rolex Mania. 116 white, 126 black. The only right answer.

Same for me. I love the 116500 case shape. I did try the 12 series on to see, but it just did not feel right on the wrist....the case is similar to YM case which I already own so that was also a factor. I was also very reluctant to pay secondary price, but in the end I decided it was a watch I had wanted and is now discontinued. Ended up picking up a 2018 unworn/fully stickered example from DavidSW. It was a hard pill to swallow price wise, but now that I have worn it alot (wore it all over Berlin last week) I have forgotten about what I paid for it and just love that I have it in my collection.

12 probably makes more profit per unit for rolex (standardised case, simpler construction, fewer challenges with ceramic)... therefore I will always like the 11 series more.

As a business owner I totally get what they are doing, I would do the same, but Rolex is not suppose to be a modular brand. They can now stamp out any case in any metal and assemble on the same process. This is Rolex not swatch.

Take this point of view outside of Daytona and apply it across multiple lines, everything is being standardised for simpler manufacturer. I dont know at which point rolex took this road, but luxury watches and brands are not suppose to be templated products In different dress. I'm not so naive as to think they aren't mass produced, but there is a line and I believe rolex is straddling it at the very least currently. AP has got around this by gem setting all of its RO's to give the illusion of exclusivity. Patek to a certain extent. All of the big brands are finding ways to match each others growth, whilst not comprising on their "exclusivity".

I remember watching a video that compared the 126500 to being a little 'Tudorish', with the metal band surrounding the bezel. Having had my eye on many a BB Chrono before i finally had the opportunity to get my hands on either a 11 or a 12 SS, i could not shake the comparison in mind. I went for the 116500.

Have to admit, I’d prefer the 11 case with the 12 bezel and dial. But we can’t have that, can we…

I chose to go with the new one but there are parts about both that I like. The indices for example on the old one I actually like better.

People really need to stop using renders for these comparisons and use real world images.

I much prefer the 12 now in both black and white. Every time I strap a steel 11 to my wrist I cannot unsee the (needless) asymmetry. I also much prefer the way the 12 lugs curve down and don't float above the wrist the way the 11s often do.

The dial is more refined and I like the look of the ring around the bezel.

Having said, If I was buying on Oysterflex I'd go 11. The case is practically identical to the 12 steel, and as I think SS Oyster has mentioned, being much softer, the 18ct gold ring on those references would be easily damaged. I also feel the less refined look works better with the rubber straps.

Totally unrelated - is that a 1.9 205 GTI in your avitar? I had one back in 1988. Brilliant little hot hatch

I have the 116500 and have not seen the new iteration in the metal. But based on videos and pics, I prefer the 11. I like the thicker sub dials and not a fan of the metal ring on the bezel. The 12 appears as if it may wear a bit larger. The 11 is perfect on my wrist. I do think the 12 looks better in black

116 White by a mile. Those who say 126 simply didn’t make it in line and/or weren’t able to get 116 white from AD, probably settled for a black one for MSRP and/or had to settle for 126 white.
No one having two from AD 116 and 126 will keep 126
