Vintage Breitling

Good afternoon friends,

I've come to the collective seeking some feedback on a watch. Specifically, a late 50's (early 60"s) Breitling 66-26 with a navitimer dial and date window with blue sweeping second hand. It is a "time only" watch with no complications and a date window at the 3 o'clock. Navitimer in script is printed on the dial at the 6 o'clock. Of course the B, Breitling, Geneve and 21 Jewels appear at the 12 o'clock.

It got a full service earlier this year with two straps. One of which is the original Breitling strap. I am interested in it as an heirloom piece for my youngest son, who will eventually receive this watch as a gift.

Any insight you can provide on this vintage model would be greatly appreciated. I did look at the vintage navitimer thread pinned to the top of this page, but got a 404 error message. My internet mining has not yielded many results either.

Unfortunately, the pictures I have are on my phone and laptop and are not hosted elsewhere.

Thanks all,
Rolo

Anybody can attach an image using the paperclip icon and meeting the size requirements of the file type.

Sorry I missed the paperclip icon. I saw the "insert image" icon and assumed the paperclip icon was meant for document attachments.

Here is the watch in question. Thanks for any feedback.

Vintage Breitling

I would not choose that as an heirloom for your young son.

Breitling, Omega, and Rolex all made "bargain price" branding in the '50s & '60s.

Navitimer
Seamaster
Oyster

IMHO, if you are a Breitling fan, then get a vintage Navitimer with something "teachable" - namely the signature slide rules on chapter ring.

Exemplar from a Chrono24 listing:

Why? Because it isn't an heirloom if you just bought it. You and your son will make it an heirloom over the years as you teach him to use the functions and complications. Let him "navigate" and track fuel consumption on a long road trip with a paper road map and the rules. He'll begin to appreciate the watch all the more.

I could go on for longer but you get the picture...

77T,
I get your drift. A well thought out response and it is appreciated. In your opinion that this is a bargain price piece, what would be considered a fair price on this?

$800 seems to be about the average.

I couldn't say with any reliability. So much depends on the state of the various parts in the movement. Despite a recent service, some retained parts may have been close to "end of life".

Of course, that's impossible for you or me to know.
