Questions on Tags
Hey guys, I've only started my interest in watches and coming to this forum not too long ago, so I was wondering why there is so little interest that memebrs of this forum have in Tag Heuers. I was suprised that there was not a section devoted to Tags like Omega and Rolex, I know in terms of history and prestige it can't match the two, but it is a very popular brand, most average citizens know it, it is sold in so many places, and they are IMO good watches with great quality, or am I wrong about that?
Thanks! Ben |

Hi Ben,
I've been a long-time Tag lover. I had 3 Se/Ls when they were still cool, and then there was the kirium which never left my wrist for the longest time. The problem I've had with Tags is that every time a new model comes out, it makes the older model worthless. This was no more evident than when trying to sell my Se/Ls. Not a single bite in over a year of selling, and I had box, papers, extra links, even the original price tag! When I eventually sold 2 of them, the sellers never even bothered with the box or papers, an indication (to me) of the degree of enthusiasm these watches generate. Hope this captures my opinion of this brand. They are good watches - if you never intend to sell them. Cheers.

Hey Ben, I looked at the Aquaracer very seriously a while back and still haven't ruled it out. It seemed like a good value for the money. Keep in mind that the AD I referred you to also carrys Tags, so pricing is very attractive. Getting a good deal upfront helps the hit on resale with non-Rolex brands.

Tags have just never done it for me.
Lots of friends had them in the late 80's and 90's in the TT which was so popular then. All of them said my SS DJ was plain and boring, well my SS DJ is still worth pretty close to what I paid for it, still looks good and is still in style while that model tag is outdated, tacky and has no resale value. If you REALLY like it and are going to keep it forever go ahead and get it..... Otherwise, buy used and realize it will be a hard sell if you ever do try to move it. You have to buy what you like not what someone else likes and not what you think is going to have a higher resale as watches are toys not investments.

Thanks for the advice!
As a matter of fact, I am looking for a Tag to keep, and the two Tags I really like are the blue monaco auto Chrono and the Grand Carrera 17RS S&RG. What do you guys think about them? |

I went with a 1970's Heuer Carrera, pre-TAG. I like it, and not concerned about resale because its a keeper.
