How do you pay for your Rolex
I was wondering how you guys fund your Rolex purchases?
Do some of you simply pay cash as and when a new one takes your fancy or do you take out finance? Or do you have a steady savings plan in place in preparation. It would be really interesting to hear. Will |

Whatever DavidSW takes .......Cash is not a possibility for me as I do transactions between Canada and USA, therefore, I find bank wire is good but PAYPal is faster and I dont mind paying the extra few points.

Never take finance... ever. Those lines of credit are usally 20 some percent intrest. I have a Rolex fund that comes out of each check.. then with part of my tax return. Finance what you need, buy cash what you want.

My AD had an offer of three years interest free credit.
My wife got me the watch as it was such a good offer, and she used my bank account, which meant she didn't actually spend any money. Everyones a winner. |

I'd never take out finance for a 'luxury item' such as a Rolex even if I had the cash in the bank & the watch was on interest free.
I'm not knocking anyone who does have their watches on credit.... It's just not how I like to do it. So I've had a "Steady Savings Plan" for the GMTIIc that I currently have 'on hold' at the AD & I'm only a couple of weeks away from deciding wether to go pick it up or wait & see what comes out at Basel simply because my 'perfect pair' would be updated black & a white Explorer II's.... I also think that saving up is part of the anticipation, & paying in cold hard cash helps one decide if they really want that watch..... but having said that I've got me a well earned bonus coming in the next couple o'months which'll more than pay for my second Rolex later this year!!

I only own one Rolex, paid in cash by my first 4 salaries as a paper boy in the 80s. They weren't as expensive then as they are now, but still a lot of money. To me at least.

I save for it, then charge it on a credit card and pay for the amount in full.

Paypal when buying overseas.
Cash or credit card at the store. Over here in Europe we seldom have credit cards with "actual" credit, but the credit card bill should be payed at full at the end of the month. |

Ive read many of these threads, 99.9% of the answers are from people that never use credit or if they do, they pay it off at the end of the month.
I have, wouldn't have owned a Rolex otherwise, paid it back. I will now walk around for the rest of my life ringing a bell and shouting "Unclean, unclean" just in case anyone comes in contact with me, and find that they are strangely drawn down the credit route, and their lives as a consequence, ruined.

I had more than enough in my bank to buy outright.
When I was not offered any discount for cash I was more than happy to use the dealers interest free credit over 3 years. By the time the watch was paid for there had been 4 price increases. It makes no sense whatsoever to save up, get no discount and watch the price rise.............. |

I took advantage of the AD's 3 year interest free credit. Paid £1000 deposit on a cash back CC - which I've just paid off in full. Why use your money when you can use the dealers for the same total paid. Made perfect sense to me. I do agree taking a interest bearing loan is not a good idea, better to save the amount you would have paid + 10 - 20% and then use the cash when you have enough.

I've done this with cars and home appliances. It's like getting an additional discount. Watches? Cash.
