It all depends what you want and expect from a watch. I have a watch that contains a DCF-77 receiver, meaning that it is controlled by a radio signal that synchronises it once every hour with a time base that is set by atomic clocks. It is waterproof to 5 ATM, stainless steel and fits comfortably on the wrist. You never, ever have to set the time yourself. Theoretically it has a deviation that is <1 second every 100,000 years. Pretty accurate and all you want from a time keeper. And it only cost EUR 18.99.
But.... Is this what you want from a watch? Sterile and soulless accuracy from an uninspiring and bland piece of technological marvel. It doesn't move me. As I once wrote, any non-jewellery or dress watch over $400 is superfluous. It no longer serves the basic purpose it was made for. Citizen make very good diving watches with their Aqualand Pro range, I've owned several of them. Sturdy and reliable workhorses they are better then their Rolex counterparts. Better in the narrow sense of the word. When you consider watches in the > $3000 price range, emotional value becomes prevalent. I prefer the humble Explorer over any technological marvel. Anytime. To me, that Explorer has soul, history. Omega or Rolex? It is a personal choice. Rolex do all 'in house', Omega uses outsourced and modified movements in most of their models. If you like the Omega for your owns reasons, go for it. Asking for advice won't help you at all because the respondents will convey their own taste, not yours.

I bought the PO to "save some money" then sold it and bought a sub and GMT.
The single question you need to think about (IMO). Do more people buy an Omega to save the money - then end up buying a sub later - or do more people buy the Sub - then end up selling it to buy the Omega??? |

Bang for the buck - probably PO.
But the SubC is my choice hands down because I know I'd never get rid of it. Bang for the buck - Benz 550. But if you can swing the Bentley, why not?? In my opinion, this thread is just a smokescreen. You want the SubC, you'll get the SubC.

I own both...Personally I dont think the Sub is any better than the Planet Ocean even if they both cost the same amount of $$. My Planet Ocean is way more accurate than my Sub and my Sub keeps +3 seconds a day. I do like the size of the Omega PO better. Its larger and you have the choice of 42mm or 45.5mm. Rolex prices are getting more and more ridiculous. If you dont need a to have the brand Rolex strapped to your wrist then Omega is the choice I would make. Dont get me wrong I love my Serti Sub but the reputation of Rolex might not be a selling point for me the older and wiser I get.

Forget the money. Buy the one you love and stay in love with it. You can Google the movements. The Cal.2500C is an ETA 2892-A2 with a couple more jewels and improved winding efficiency. The Sub uses Cal. 3135.

Buy which ever watch makes you happier when you wear it. In other words, buy the Rolex.

The fact that you're considering the Rolex, costing an additional £2k, would indicate that the Rolex is the one you really want. Sure, you can save £2k and go for the Omega, but, after you've bought it, I'm pretty sure that those nagging thoughts will come back into you head, that won't go away, until you've bought the Rolex. As has been said, the Rolex transcends all purely basic time-keeping elements and is an object of desire, a statement of quality and craftsmanship, as much today as it has always been. I'd say go for it

My opinion on this for what it's worth is that Rolex is a superior purchase.
Omega and Tag Heuer, they are cheaper to purchase than the Rolex as they are more of a starter watch than the Rolex IMO. Where the watches are totally different is resale value and future saleability. Even in a bad economy you will always sell your Rolex. In any country your Rolex is cash and you can ALWAYS sell your Rolex no problem. I have had 4 Rolex models. I buy the right model (brand new) and I buy it smartly. As a result I have overall been able to get back at least what I paid for all of them. That will NEVER happen with an Omega or a Tag, FACT! However if it is a watch that you plan to keep forever and pass down to the generations, then there is no better watch than a Rolex for that either. Hope this helps, but it is just my humble opinion. Good luck in whatever you choose. |

Well
I have the PO and 16610. actually I got the PO first because of the price difference, although i love it and it is in rotation with the 16610 but what i can tell is that owning the PO did not stop me from getting the Sub (actually i ended up buying the 2 instead of saving for the Sub right from the begining). but at the end of the day, the PO is a beautiful watch and very well constructed but a Sub is a Sub !! |

Thats it! we are on a Rolex forum because we love Rolex models. Omega, Tag, Breitling I am guessing all have their own forums and probably say "who would spend the money on a rolex" etc etc....
Just personal opinions. |

A bunch of these folks have already hit on the points I might make, but I'd like to say again that the Omega is a Swatch. You could have this watch for 40+ years-- where are you going to get it serviced in 2030? How does Swatch do with service? I never have trouble getting parts or service for a Rolex.

CASH is like water ...it will run through you fingers no matter how hard you try to hold on to it ... you will end up spending on other stupid things like
1. electronics 2. gifts for others 3. Charity So screw them all ... do something for yourself.. try to solidify your cash by buying an SS SPORTS Rolex or Gold Bars.... Because after a yr, when you add up all the crap you bought, it will exceed the 2300 pounds you are trying to save.... |

People who smoke 20 a day spend about £2,000 a YEAR!!!!! A McDonalds a day makes you fat, but also costs you £2,000 a YEAR! A fancy Starbucks/Costa coffee a day costs you £1,000 a YEAR! You get nothing back from them after a year, but a SS Rolex will pay you back :) |

I have learned to buy what you really want up front, even if it cost more and you have to wait a bit loner up front. You will end up getting either way and spend more money in the long run. Money goes no matter what you do to hold onto it. On dumb things or things you couldnt help, like car repairs etc. So buy the Rolex and hold onto it. You will always break even at the very least. Wear it long enough and you will make money on it. I have put my recent cash into my two Rolex watches I got at great prices and gold or silver. Anything else is not worth it these days to me. The cash will go unless you tie it up somehow. What better way than a few Rolex watches you can wear and enjoy, or some gold and silver to hold onto? |

+1 if you like the PO, get the PO because you want the PO. it's a nice watch...if the rolex pops into your head at all during the thought process, definitely get the rolex. 2-3K or 4-5K, we're talking serious money either way for a luxury purchase, so get what you want. |

Go for the Sub Date, Stitch - It's a classic. As others have said, it's the one you, likely, really want so get it from the start to avoid not being satisfied.
Good luck on your decision. |

The only Omega I own is the classic Speedy pro, and I can say that I can sell it for what I bought it for. Yes Omega does discount out the door, so you can buy that PO you are looking at for 30% less, now how does that make you feel. Rolex on the other hand tries to sell at or close to MSRP, this in return helps keep the resale up. Buy the Omega right and you will not lose much cash if you decide to sell, buy the Rolex at MSRP and you will lose more. People can talk at how much better resale value Rolex has over Omega, but when you take the 30% off MSRP that most are buying their Omega's for, it's very comparable.
Personally, I do like the PO, but I don't like the he valve on the side or the hands. The ability to wear it on a rubber strap or bracelet it a huge advantage over the bracelet only sub, true divers should have this option. With that said, I will buy the new sub, but only after I buy the new IWC Aquatimer 2000 with white dial. OH, I would never put Omega and Tag in the same category, Tag is a fashion watch, Omega has some true tool watches.

I was in the choice between Omega and Rolex and finally get the Rolex because I know Rolex would be the one that MUST have finally so it's meaningless to waste $ getting Omega 1st than Rolex..

OK here's the scenario. You are not passing the watch down, the circumstances are reversed and you are the person who is going to inherit a watch. Take your pick which one do you want to inherit?

Guys, lets be honest, both brands make fantastic watches that will last a lifetime. I bet it the PO said Rolex on it instead of Omega, some of you Rolex lovers would be all over it. The only Omega that I will ever own is the Speedy pro, to me, it is a better watch than any Daytona. Now if I was comparing a seamaster and a sub, well I have and I bought the sub. The PO is not for me but it is a fantastic timepiece, and anyone who buys one has a great watch and a few extra grand sitting in their bank account.
If a watch is being passed down to me, I would not care about the brand of the watch, it's the history that is has from a family member that is special. How shallow would it be to be bummed that your dad just passed down a watch that was not a Rolex, seriously.
