I'd go with the SD. It's a classic. There are several variations of the Sub, but only 1 SD.

Apologies if this is misjudged, but it sounds like a question of 'which one is going to be rarer/more sought after in the future' affecting your decision.. (as these two are recently discontinued)

I did this with my SD, and whilst I love the look, I want something a bit more exciting. I am close to the TT GMTiic currently.

Production-wise, I would say the SD has more since they've been out since the 70's. Keep in mind the LV has only been around since '03. This model marks the 50th anniversary of the Sub.

My decision process went like this...
- Must have iconic Rolex...
- Submariner
- HATE the cyclops...
- Like the date...
(Did I say hate the cyclops?)
- Sea Dweller!!!

Most people won't know the difference and if they ask, tell 'em "it's the new Submariner 2.0 that I'm beta testing."

Tough call. I tried on both a few times over a couple of years and ended up getting the LV. Both are great watches, but I felt the LV looked and felt better on me.

Love the maxi dial of the LV. Love the size and feel of the SD.
But if I could have ONLY ONE, I'd pick the SD. Unless it's an 2003 early F or Y sub LV ( some called it the real anniversary sub )
