Rolex, good watch, out of reach.
I will never own a Rolex in my lifetime most likely, but I do think they are good watches. Would I like to own a real SUB, absolutely. I wish they'd bring back some of the models that would run on batteries for an intro Rolex.
What do you guys think? |

I think if they would be easy to obtain, you'd have less satisfaction owning one.

Well, with a bit of careful saving, a Rolex isn't that unobtainable, especially if you look at the second hand market. Welcome to the site, you'll soon catch that Rolex sickness

BS. Out of reach is a frame of mind... if you want it bad enough you can save for it.

It's not the brand of the watch, it's the joy of owning a nice mechanical watch that will last a lifetime, so I am not a fan of the whole battery idea.
Honestly, you can put money aside and pick up a nice used sub and enjoy it for life. Prices are really not out of reach for anyone with a good, steady job, it's just about priorities. You can find a nice no date sub for around $3000, that is not a bad price for a watch that will last you a lifetime and maintain a solid resale value if you needed cash. I truly wish you the best, start saving now and you will find one soon enough. Rolex is a mass produced, assembly line brand these days. There are so many subs in this world that if you look, you will find a great watch at a great price.

A good used sub is $4k so if you put away $5 a day you should have one it 2 years. How does that sound?

depends how old you are mate???....that is how much life you reckon you've got ahead of you...when you look at $5 a day as posted above...for 2-3 years.....it's just about priorities....if you have responsibilities other than this then fair enough..
Good luck..you'll get lots of good advice here.

Earning something I consider "unobtainable" makes ownership much sweeter.

Like verything in life you need to set a goal and follow a plan to get there. Even if it takes 5, 10 or 20 years it will still be worth the wait. Sit down and figure out what you have to do to save for one and then just do it. Failure to plan is planning to fail.

It would be a better world if Rolex watches were cheaper and more people could enjoy them on their wrists.

Don't give up hope. I am sure someday you would own one if you want it bad enough.

Welcome to TRF. I had a picture of the SS Sub above my desk for over a year... saved every paycheck for it and everyone in my office knew it was my goal. Then I had some unexpected expenses and the "Rolex fund" was gone. Saved again and had my first Rolex!! It was almost as exciting as buying my first car. Good luck, save some $$$ and maybe find a nicely used model to get you going. -Pete

it took me about 30 months putting a little on side each week to get my GMTII. Its doable if you really want it. Its only 4k, use your tax return, or instead of buying a 20k truck, buy a 16k truck, dont drink overpriced starbucks, there are TONs of ways to save 5$ a day and save the 4 grand.

If you hang around here in TRF, I'm almost certain you'll find a way to fund that first ROLEX......Good luck

I have the opposite problem. My wife wants to get me a Rolex for my upcoming 50th B-day . . . But she has left the research to me. Hence my lurking on this site.
