Rolex in the Magic Kingdom
I took my Yachtmaster on its third trip to Disneyland today...(sorry, no photos). I must say it survived the roller-coaster rides well (Matterhorn, Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, etc.).
The WIS that I am, I did start to look at other watches (and there were quite a few). I saw only one other Rolex, a TT Sub with serti dial. I saw quite a bit of sports watches (metal bracelets) on men and women, including man's-sized watches (e.g. 40 mm and above) on women. It was interesting to see very, very few (less than 5--all jogging watches on rubber straps) digital watches being worn. I was a kid when digital watches started to hit big, in the late 70s-early 80s, and I thought that the analog watch would die off. Perhaps today's Disneyland crowd wasn't a good cross-section of the population, but except for people who are very likely joggers (thin/athletic build, wearing jogging clothes), most people whom I saw have opted for an analog watch. As an aside it was funny (in an odd way) to see young people (ages 15-25) constantly texting on their cell phones in lines, etc. rather than talk to their companions. |

Thanks for the report. My wife and I were at Disneyworld in Orlando, FL last year and saw a lot more Rolexes (mainly Subs and DJ's) than at the Disneyland in LA.

More than digital watches, I think cell phones pose the greater threat to mechanical watches.

Well the Mickey Mouse watch was never released as a digital was it
I don't know of Disneyland represents a proper random sample cross section of modern USA society. I've never seen a Rolex advertisement displaying Disneyland as a Rolex environment however Walt Disney was Rolex wearer: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=110235
