Never thought I would say this, but wearing a Rolex is starting to get embarassing

For reasons other than you think....

It starts to get embarrassing at times. You guys don't understand how many people ask me what watch I am wearing. I answer Rolex and people start interrogating me with questions ranging from "how much did you pay" or "where did you get the money to buy that". The worst is when my friends who know that I have tell everyone in a group, which in turn causes 5-6 people to turn and look at my wrist.

Granted I am 22 and I own two which may be the basis of the reactions but I mean....really?

Well, it's none of their business in the first place to ask you how you get the money bla bla bla.....
It's yours, and you just want to enjoy the watch... don't let others ruin the rolex love....

Wow! I have never been asked, even once, about my watch. Perhaps it's a geographic difference, as the folks where I live couldn't care any less.

LOL is it too hillbilly in South Carolina to know what a rolex is?

My friend was telling me this joke a week or so ago about people from the country and their terminology for guns. For those who know stuff about pistols, glocks are made out of polymer but hillbillies call them "plastic guns" LOL.

Same here...

Actually no I lie...put my sub on a NATO and a colleague said "nice strap... What sort of strap is that...?" nothing ever about the watch!

Since I don't know what you mean by "hillbilly", I suppose I am unable to answer your question, Justin. I assume you are insulting the sophistication of South Carolinians. I don't believe I made any statement that would lead any intelligent reader to assume the people in my area are less than sophisticated. I simply stated that no one had ever commented on my watch, as those I associate with could not care any less. How this relates to one being a "hillbilly" or not, or what this has to do with guns, is beyond me.

At the end of the day, its your watch...enjoy it! There was a reason why you bought it in the first place, right.

If you love your Rolex as I do, dont worry about other peoples opinions / inputs... just wear them in good health my friend. Some people have nothing else better to do with there time than "bash" us for what we love. Whatever!

I think I need the same caliber of friends cause I hear the same crap. I feel like saying, if you really want to know what rolex costs, go to a store or look it up on line.

You can move to Northern California. I've never had anyone notice any of my watches.

I guess most folks can't wrap their minds around a 22 year old with a nice watch. Consider it a compliment, Justin!

The Loxmyth comes through for you!

Long sleeve shirts are the answer.

I AM a problem solver.

Otherwise, take it off when you feel the need to or pick up a bunch of brochures from the AD and hand them one when asked.

When I am asked what I'm wearing, I answer, "a watch."

Just look them in the eye and tell them "it's none of your business, and it is considered rude in most cultures, including this one to ask how much people pay for a personal items."
I think it's crazy that you or me or any Rolex owner would have to think of a way to justify their purchase. I have found that the straight forward, honest answer is usually enough to stop the questions. I agree that for some reason watches and Rolex in general seem to give carte blanche (spelling?) to people to ask about your personal financial situation. WTF!? Try the answer above and don't stop wearing watches you enjoy because other people lack class!

Good luck.

Long sleeve shirt in Texas? It's 95 degrees here 8 months out of the year. I do the exact same thing you do though about 50% of the time when people ask me what I am wearing and just say "a watch".

LOL! It's not the watches that are the problem, it's the losers you're hanging around

with. You need a new group of friends, ones who won't be so stupid and 'imma-cher' as to make rude and embarrassing remarks about somebody's watch to the whole room.

LOL, that's the beauty of it, it's to the point and clearly indicates that you have no intention of answering financial questions from a stranger.

I guess it's the NY'er in me that kind of tells it like it is. :-)

Or

Dont buy a Rolex to impress others. Buy it to reward yourself. The Rolex you wear is the one that BEST MATCHES your mood, career and charactor.

Why Rolex and not, lets say, TIMEX? The investment value. PERIOD. People dont understand this. The best phrase I hear is, " My Timex costs 20 bucks".<------------And it will cost $2 in a year.

I have a sister in law who one time actually dug through all my shopping bags when I got home to see how much I paid for everything I bought.

It's not just watches--seems like people can be so rude anymore. They'll ask how much you paid for everything from shoes to houses.

My stock answer (generally about shoes or jewelry or some other item obviously perceived by them as "wasteful"--I haven't been asked about my watch yet) is something along the lines of "It wasn't too expensive. I got a good deal." If they persist I just tell them that my mamma taught me that it's not polite to talk about money, sex or religion. That generally gets them off the subject and we start telling dirty jokes

I just tell them I paid a lot for my Rolex. However, I end it up by saying," I drive a $2000 car!"
