It also seems that the actual date of manufacture can be determined by the code that's on the clasp. These codes indicate when the watch was assembled at the Rolex factory so you can actually ascertain whether a V serial is '09 or not! O = 1990 P = 1991 Q = 1992 R = 1993 S or T = 1994 W or T = 1995 V = 1996 Z = 1997 X = 1999 AB = 2000 DE = 2001 DT = 2002 AD = 2003 CL = 2004 MA = 2005 OP = 2006 EO = 2007 EO = 2007 PJ = 2008 PL or LT = 2009 The number behind the letter(s) seems to be the month the clasp was produced. So, for example, CL2 would be February 2004 If there is an "S" in front of the code then your clasp was changed on a "S"ervice. |

That bit does, but it has a V serial and was sold as a jan 2010 model. Was it just put together with a 2006 clasp?

As I understand, the PJ 6 is June 2008 manufacture of the Clasp... and V is 2008 manufacture of the watch. I think that the reason that these V Models are still being sold in 2010 is just an indication that supply is a couple years ahead of demand. Below is a Serial by year chart. Kindest regards, Jack. X-N 1991 - 1993 C 1992 – 1993 S 1993 - 1994 W 1994 - 1996 T 1996 - 1997 U 1997 - 1998 U 1998 A 1998 – 1999 P 1999 - 2000 K Series (intro mid-2001) 2001- 2002 Y Series (intro mid-2002) 2002 - 2003 F Series 2003 D April 2005 Z May 2006 M October 2007 V August 2008 |

Not when you consider movements like the Cal 3135 must be thousands sitting in racks ready to be cased. Plus the ones at the COSC for testing and returning from testing.Plus the many failed ones returned to Rolex to be re-oiled re-timed and sent back to the COSC for re-testing.Same for bracelets like the Oyster made by the thousands. So even those date codes are only a approximation for when a watch watch fully assembled for sale. And watch cases and bracelet clasps are not perishable, and have the same warrranty when bought new know matter when they were stamped..

My new V Sub has a clasp marked LT6 (June 2009) which is acceptable, but going back 4 years on a new watch is odd. JJ

And what difference would a bracelet clasp date make to the clasp its the same clasp thats been around for ten plus years. And the same s.steel its a clasp, nothing more nothing less, and no different from any other s.steel oyster bracelet or clasp, except for a few letters and numbers. So what you are saying JJ, you would not buy a Rolex watch, if the clasp although bought new from AD was perhaps by a few letters and numbers deemed to be a few years old.

Just that I have had the opportunity to check out many of the new models and have always found the clasp date manufacture pretty close to the watch date manufacture. So, in this case, the difference in years is pretty significant..............and that's what surprised me, that's all. JJ

I just bought a GMT II ceramic last week and the serial is Z. I asked the AD if he had a newer one and he said they just go that one in April and showed me the shipping ticket. I am not sure how that came about.
