Liverpool Liverpool

What is happening with Liverpool FC? They have been at the top for many years. I could remember before Man Utd.,Chelsea and Arsenal, Liverpool were arch rivels to Leeds Utd.. That Liverpool side was great, Keegan, Highway, Smith, Hughes, Kennedy, Thompson, Fairclough, Toshack then Hansen.
I don't really like the present team especially Gerrard though I do like Torres.
But I cannot envisage Liverpool is in the bottom three, OK Man City now replaced Liverpool as the top four.
I wonder what Bill Shankley would make of this situation?

Blame the owners who borrowed a lot of money to buy the club, they couldnt refinance the loan without paying post crash interest rates and you have a club that has all its money swallowed up by a large debt serviced on a higher interest rate. no money for players and a lot of existing players on a large wage not fired up for the club and hey presto you have liverpool FC

Man City should be winning all trophies with the amount of $$$ they've spent. They have a bunch of quality players, I don't know about chemistry though.

I do feel bad for Liverpool. A lof of the blame should be put on the owners and recent managers. They have also had their share of injuries.

I'm still pretty bummed with Arsenal's recent results.

Give it time, if one throw enough ££££ at it. Remember Chelsea were no where until ££££ came to the rescue. Mind you they did buy the right players and Jose was the right manager.
As for Arsenal they have got some young players that will come through some day.

Terrible times for the Reds, all started when David Moores infamously sold to Tom Hicks & George Gillette, fingers crossed RBS will start to call in their debt tomorrow (06.10.10) & the Club will have new owners later this month.

They have had plenty of time to "grow up". I am one of those that would like a trophy before the end of the season. I'm pretty sure Cesc is going to leave after this season, even if they win silverware. Jack has been playing really well, and hopefully Aaron will make it back 100%. But even those two cannot replace a player like Cesc.

I think you'll find Spurs replaced Liverpool in the top 4.

liverpool have been atrocious. benitez is an average manager at best, Hodgson needs time. As for the owners and liverpools debt ... there are problems everywhere. I think gerard is immense whereas Torres is too injury prone, even spain dropped him to the bench in the world cup

I don't think they will they could even go the way of Leeds or Newcastle. The American owners have got them so far in debt even if a new owner comes in, and another American is interested - Boston Red Socks - they are not going to have enough money to clear the debt, build a new stadium and invest in the team. Being outside the champions league places hurts them more. Gerrard Reina and Torres will be gone by next season. Liverpool are in trouble.

I think they've been found out. In the season they finished second, they rode their luck and their position in the Sky4 was underlined by how many decisions seemed to go their way.

That luck is now gone.

Also, the blame on the owners is fair but week in week out they fill the ground, sell shirts and other tat and the money was coming in to both service the debts and pay the staff. The former boss needs to take a big share of the blame. His buys were dreadful. Money was limited and he spent £20 million on an unproven Italian midfielder with a history of injuries? Paid over the odds for a English right back when one core midefielder has left to Madrid and another was making noise about going? All that money on Robbie Keane to bench him or play him out of position?
Even this year Roy has had the funds...he bought Poulsen, the other non entity in midfield (his name escapes me) and spent a huge amount on Cole's wages who was not considered good enough by Chelsea or wanted on a free by the other two big teams in England (Man Yoo and the Goons).

The rest of the blame lies with the guys on the pitch. Paid all that money and showing no heart. They remind me of Spurs under Ramos (2 points from 8 etc)...they weren't playing for him and wanted him gone...do the Liverpool players consider themselves too big for a boss like RH?

Leeds is a long way off but with all this boardroom stuff and legal battles and the huge debts they could end up like Portsmouth.

In 9 days the bank will call for the loan and if it is not repaid Liverpoolcan go into admin. This would lead to 9 points deduction and they only have 6, interesting having -3 points.

Leeds will rise from the ashes to become the super power they were.

Mind having been 4-1 up at home and then loosing 4-6, a modicum of doubt does exists.

Did I ever tell ya about that goal Lorimer scored.........Thoughts so.

I'll get me coat.

Purely academic now as there's new owners, but it wasnt the same situation as Portsmouth FC.

A while ago Martin Broughton met with the E P L & it was agreed that as LFC is a profitable business there wouldnt be any points deduction, simply that RBS would oversee the Club until such time as suitable new owners were found.

Until it is signed and sealed it can still go belly up. I would leave to the last minute and renegotiate the price as Liverpool is more desperate.

I thought Gerrard was one club man, if you cut him in half it would have Liverpool. I just cannot see him playing for another top team unless he just want to be another player and not the captain.

I like your lighten attitude to life Chris. I don't support any team, I just like to watch a good game of football. But I do like my local team to do well and they are similar position as Liverpool in the league.

Many yrs ago when Man United were in free-fall & heading for relegation their crowd would sing 'Always Look on The Bright Side of Life', I've always admired them for that

You are showing your age as the last time I remember Man Utd was in trouble was when they lost 2-1 to Norwich and relegated to the old Division two. Then the fans demolished the Norwich ground.

With the Sox terrible pitching walking batters this season, they can adopt the great Liverpool anthem too!

Why are the owners want to block the sale?

Surely selling now and cut their losses would be better than going into admin, 9 points deduction, possible relegation and the club not worth a penny.
