Petition to bring back the Rolex Oysterquartz
Finally, I get to experience the positive feelings of wearing a Rolex without the worry of it needing to be wound again in case I didn't wear it for a day or 2. Like on Sunday I was unable to wear it cuz I didn't go anywhere, I remember the anxiety on Monday morning of whether it was still working or needed winding or if the power reserve was low and I should wind it anyways, so many potential issues, but then I realised it was an Oysterquartz and that tension and worry was an issue of the past. Could invest in a winder or 2 but just too lazy at the moment I guess.
Come on guys, we need the Oysterquartz back. Imagine... Oysterquartz Daytona, Oysterquartz Submariner, Oysterquartz Milgauss... The latest Rolex designs and bracelets with the uber accurate quartz mechanism. Ahh even the single tick of the second hand sounds so cool and relaxed, the automatic would tick 6 or 8 times in a second and I was almost afraid it was overworking itself, like the second hand was trying to sprint in a marathon. The quartz second hand sounds like a smart item that realises time is perpetual and so it paces itself. Plus there's technology now released by other watch companies where the quartz second hand moves fluidly as well, come on Rolex, adapt and evolve with the times... u guys can take quartz watches to the next level. I prefer wearing a 1970s Oysterquartz to a 2006 DD, it's my new daily beater, oh if there was a 2011 Oysterquartz I would wet myself. |

I mean its not like the automatic watch is proprietary to Rolex, tons of watchmakers create automatic watches. What's so great about automatic? The fact is the best automatic watches are far less accurate than a normal quartz. It's called evolution. I would compare a Rolex watch to a 2011 design Mercedes Benz with an engine from the 1950s... I mean WHY?? Why not stick a 2011 SUPERQUARTZ inside a 2011 watch??

Sorry to say but you're in the vast minority. There's a reason why Rolex discontinued the Oysterquartz, they hardly sold any.
If you want a new quartz Rolex you can always get a men's Cellini Quartz model. |

I mean, the very purpose of a watch is to tell the time accurately, now if we had that plus the Rolex name and designs, now thats what I'd call a watch. People preferring an outdated and inferior mechanism to perform an action less efficiently and costlier... |

I'll sign the petition. I have 3 Rolexes but suspect that, if Hans Wilsdorf was still running the show, there would be at least one Quartz model. Automatics are neat and cool and I love them and plan to get more but they are old technology like big V8's with pushrods which I also love and own.

OMG! I believe by now Seiko has gone way beyond what Rolex could do in the Quartz arena. Quartz Rolex models bring me back to the 1980's.....remember all those ticking President models for $25? I would hope Rolex would go hybrid or full solar before quartz. Look at what Porsche and other car companies are doing. Performance + ecological sense and responsibility. Besides I had a Movado quartz and the battery eroded and destroyed the insides. Just outside of warranty.... IMHO....

Since Rolex no longer makes the Oysterquartz.....has anyone considered the quartz watches from Grand Seiko & The Citizen Chronomaster.......excellent build/fit & finish...very precise....& they have the classic styling.

If I wanted it I'd get a Grand Seiko which is a very advanced watch... Rolex should do what Rolex does best... make finely crafted watches... Quartz? BOOO! Hopefully Rolex never goes this route... it'll cheapen the brand.

I would like Rolex to re-launch the bracelet and case which houses the oysterquartz. it has a cool retro look and feel to it. Based on what i've observed, the Oysterquartz bracelet is much more durable too.
Seriously if Rolex could bring back some of the discontinued lines, I would be among the first in queue for the dressy annual calendar and moonphase |

Hm, not sure what you're doing wrong, but I haven't had to wind or set a Rolex in weeks.

I love OQ's I have two 17000 refs at the moment, a black and a blue. Black one's a one-liner. They look great on, though my daily beater's a 5513 :-)

I would sign that. Have you seen the new quartz movements of late. 16 beats per second, near fluid seconds hand and 10 secs a year accuracy. Like someone said, Rolex would have a lot of catching up to do.
