Annoyed seeing Rolex Fakes?

Don't you feel annoyed, meeting people wearing fake Rolexes? There are times, that I'm tempted to say "that yours is a fake".

In a 3-day seminar I've attended, I spotted about 4 to 5 people wearing these fake Rolex. Some are even "diamond" studded blings!

Being surrounded by fakes....makes me feel so uncomfortable. Makes me want to take off mine....even if it's the real thing and wear something else.

Its a cruel world out there. Fakes are a fact of life and there isn't much we purists can do.

You have the satisfaction of knowing you are wearing the genuine article. That's all that counts IMHO.

I think it's the feeling of getting associated with the fakes and wannabes.

Am I making sense?

Well who you associate with is entirely your choice, but you can't really judge a person by the watch he/she wears or doesn't wear.

I totally agree. Just Like I have friends who own 6-7 pieces of genuine Rolex but yet indulges in one or two pieces of fakes. It doesn't make them less of a fan.

Can't really judge a person by his watch...A friend I know pretty well, he has a large collection of faked rolex/omega, his net worth is couple million US dollars, the guy really knows how to invest and spend his money wisely so he is becoming richer day by day. Now I also know someone who spent couple months of his salary on real Rolex while still lives in an apartment and drives a beat up car.

As I said before it's all about piority, a guy wears a fake doesn't mean that he's poorer than you...Or a guy with that real Rolex doesn't mean that he's more successful than you finacially.

Believe it or not, guys, I have yet to see a fake in Auckland. They are just not available here....even if you went out of your way to find one!!!

You'd find it far more easier to find a genuine Rolex (in the blink of an eye)...rather than if you went round looking for a fake....which you'd probably never find.

Should I consider myself lucky?

Ditto.

I went into the petrol station to fill-up one of the work cars (Hyundai Excel) wearing my Rolex, and the attendant smirked at me and said "One day mate, you'll have a real one!"

10 minutes later I took my car in............he said NOTHING!!

Judging a person for anything as silly as a watch, car or any material possession says more about the person doing the judging than what the other is doing, being or having. The same for feeling the need to impress someone with the same.

Copies are the sincerest kind of flattery.

But that kind of flattery sure sucks!

However, in a way, copies add to the popularity of the real Rolex watches, and add to the prestige of owning the "real thing".

I just came back from Hong Kong. It is amazing to see the abundance of both real and fake Rolexes available there. The real "things" are NOT any cheaper than in the USA>

I did not have enough interest to inquire about the prices of the fake ones.

Believe it or not, there are owners of real Rolexes (or any other swiss watches ie. Omega, Breitling etc) that buy replica ones in order to save their Rolex from being bashed around.

Kind of defeats the purpose of a watch though.

There will always be knock-offs as long as there's a market for them.

I would not think that because mine is genuine, someone would think that I am part of the knock-off crowd. There's an inner peace knowing no matter what the guy next to me has on he knows, and I know.

I don't get a lot of interaction just because of the watch I have on, but I did have an incident last month on board a ship. The gentleman struck up a casual conversation at the rail and I didn't notice until he was leaving that he had been holding his hand over his watch A couple of glances during the course of the cruise convinced me he had on a fake. As I say, he knew what he had on.

John.
I am surprised that the same attendant did not make a comment like, "One day mate, you needn't to rent (your car) one!"

I sense some arrogance in your post. Why does it bother you what other people wear (watch/clothes)? It's non of your business whatever they wear. Just curious, what part of Asia are you from? Considering your location, you must be very miserable if "fake anything" bothers you.

Then they won't be able to tell the time if they don't wear one

Darn tootin'! If Paris Hilton chooses to have a pink interior in her Bentley - I don't care - it's her (kinda) money.

I agree with what seems to be the majority, so far. Why does it bother you. As long as you know yours is the real thing. I personally think that's a big part of what's wrong with the world today. Everyone wants to tell other people how to do things, what they should or shouldn't be doing, etc.. As long as no one is being hurt, I say do what you do and let me do what I do, and the world can be one happy place!!! And yep, I own a real GMT(SS black bezel) and a fake GMT(Gold Anniv. model with green dial)... I love the gold watches, but can't see spending $20K on one. So I opted for the $100 fake. I rarely wear it, but I love the way it looks....

Five years ago I drove a Hyundai 4x4 all over Costa Rica for a period of 6 weeks.
I have done this on several different occasions with many different 4x4s.
The Hyundai was the best of the bunch.
