Scratched my DSSD!!

Absolutely gutted isn't the word! Was messing around last night trying to change a bulb on the wife's Audi TT so she could go out and forgot to take my DSSD off my wrist before hand.

Come back in and took it off to wash hands and i've scratched the case just behind the Helium Valve at about 10 o'clock on the side of the case! Runs virtually from top to bottom of the case but not too deep.
Could bloody kick myself! First time i've ever scratched a watch in 10 years of owning Rolex's!

Don't want to send it back to get re-done as I think waiting time here in the UK at the moment is around 8 weeks, so anyone got any ideas how to tackle it myself and what to use?

Regards,

Mike.

The first one always hurts the most
but at least now you can enjoy it!!

Rolex also won't touch it to do any refinishing until it's due a service.

I recently banged up my Sub and thought the world was coming to an end, but I've just learnt to accept the scratch

MIke, how about we see some pictures of that lovely Everose Daytona 116505????

X2 on both statements!!

The scratches are something that I too, with great pain, have learned to live with....especially on my SS Daytona with the PCL's!

Would also love to see a few pics of your awesome RG Daytona from your profile!!

You could try with a Cape Cod cloth, considering that the scratch isn't deep... be sure to know touch the matte finished side of the bezel, though.

Know how you feel !

I wore an Omega SMP for 10 years before I bought my SD. That was my 1st love. Maybe after 2/ 3 years one night while drunk in some club back in the 90's - I got a scuff on the bezel ! Took me about a week to get over it. Now whenever I pull the watch out I barely notice it & even at service would make sure that it was a "non cosmetic one as every scratch\ scuff has a story ..... !!

I can't though i'm a sod when it comes to my watches and cars. Slightest mark and I want to cry!

Tbh i'm probably over reacting and will calm down later!

I might try a cape cod as mentioned above, think amazon have them so might order a few and see what they are like.

Re my Daytona, will be putting a few pics up this weekend when we're at our place in London as the better camera is there
Think I promised some pics of my Patek's to someone too a litlle while ago

Off to go and have a little cry now thinking about my poor DSSD

Put it this way- isn't is testament to the design of the watch that you forgot you were wearing it...?

Should put to bed alot of questions "Is the DS an everyday watch?".

Depending on the scratch, cape cod but Bo gives great advice on where to use it.

Please let us know how you get on.

If you're gonna use Cape Cod, here is some advice for you:

- Don't polish ANY matte finished with the CC cloth.

- Be sure that the CC cloth is fresh and moist (if not moist, soften it with water).

- Don't rub the watch too vigorously with the CC cloth...

- Mind the sharp edge at the underside towards the caseback... do not run over that edge with the CC cloth.

- If you get "swirl" marks after polishing, use the CC cloth again but ever so gently.

- Be sure to wash the watch afterwards to get rid of the residues from the CC cloth.

- Wipe clean with a soft cotton cloth.

Leave it for a few days, come back and you'll find the scratch is nowhere near as bad as you think

looking forward to seeing some snaps of the 116505

Yup! Just goes to show it's not as much as a pain to wear everyday as some people make out! Been wearing mine daily now for a few months and hardly know it's there most of the time until someone comments on how nice it looks!

Kind of calmed down now, wearing my Milgauss and distracted by looking at it every few mins (flash in the pan new watch syndrome lol).

Oh, btw.: the cloth has a vanilla scent to it... if you don't want your fingers to smell of vanilla, use the supplied gloves (at least the large can version, a pair of gloves are included).

Also, the cloth will quick turn black when you use it... avoid running a used CC cloth over a high gloss surface since the black part of the cloth can contain microscopic traces of metal (from the rubbing), causing more hairline scratches.....

Regards,

Mike.

Best of luck with this!

The CC cloth works wonders on small scratches, but if the scratch is deep (I believe you said it's not?), be careful not to remove too much material.

It's a DSSD!

Tell everyone how you were working at 500m welding a section of an oil rig in the North Sea and while suiting up in your ADS 2000 atmospheric diving suit you scratched your watch on an an adjacent metal object.

If anyone questions your veracity, tell them that you're a specialist who's only called out on extremely complicated missions and that you normally keep it quiet, but your grief at having scratched your DSSD caused you to lose your presence of mind.

Or something like that.

Sorry about your scratch.

It's inevitable and really not worth the worry.

Lightly scuffed the bracelet of my SS Datejust "Thunderbird" back in November, 2007 after I tripped and fell on the concrete, almost reminiscent of Chevy Chase during the first few years of "Saturday Night Live". Words could not describe how ticked off I was. I was so mad I jumped in the car as soon as the local AD opened and asked them to send the watch back to Rolex for a bracelet refinish and movement inspection. This was nearly a year after I had a full service done on it. The owner of the AD even tried to talk me out of it and showed me his YG Day-Date which looked as if it had been around the block a few times. I still sent it off anyways and to my surprise I wasn't charged and the watch returned in a new service box with polishing cloth and service booklet, etc. looking brand new. They must have changed their policy since then but I was pretty impressed at how they handled it.

It's a sickness. I share your pain.

I find that AutoGlym metal polish is also rather effective
