i used to treat mine with extra care and always want to make sure it is in tip top condition.... now i just wear for what is it intended and enjoy as much as i can.

i recall it all went "downhill" after the first scratch

i still do wipe the finger print off the crystal when necessary though

Right down to the shampoo I use. I like the way the bezel ring sparkles. When it gets dull I won't care so much.

DITTO, in the beginning I was nuts with cleaning and setting the time off the internet. It would drive me crazy if it was off more than a second or two. I went to the RSC in NYC twice because of "timing". Now, I clean it once a month, if the month has less than 31 days and I have to adjust the date. Like everyone on this list told me, I wear it and enjoy it.

Great Post, made me smile Be Safe JIM

I wear an 18k Daytona daily, every night it gets a dip in jewelry cleaner & dried with a micro fiber cloth, then into a winder... every April it goes for a polishing at my watchmaker... I have worn a Rolex since my early twenty's & I just have developed a habit of not banging my left hand into any thing... my watch looks like I only take it out for special occasions, but its on my wrist for 12 hours a day... & I love it...

In my opinion, my Navitimer and my Sub are like little [military] tanks. On the way to dropping off my sub to the rolex service center, I was briskly walking down a crowded sidewalk in downtown San Francisco when I accidently brushed my arm against an aluminum pole - my poor Sub! It sounded like a GONG going off. Mental note: try not to do that coming OUT of the service center...

Now my brand spanking new, shrink wrapped, 2011 model Stainless Rolex Daytona? Oh man, I grab only the edges of the pillow and oh so carefully pull it out of the winder, then I put it on my wrist, then immediately wipe it down with a soft, dedicated cloth. I wipe on it several times a day while wearing it. I never let the clasp touch my desk while I'm typing. When I get home, I wipe it down again, take it off, put it on the winder pillow, wipe the watch down again while holding the pillow in such a way as to not let any final fingerprints touch the watch, then slide the pillow into the winder with a cloth wrapped around my hand. Then breathe a big sigh of relief!

When I first got them I babied them and would look for the smallest scratches and polish. That wore off quickly and now I just wear and enjoy them but don't try to obviously abuse them. They will get cleaned up at service time (maybe) but more than likely will let them collect wear history. I wash them once in a while when they need it.

I have tried to teach my Rolex´s that life isn´t fair, and that it is hard and gives you scars.

I just wear my Rolex´s, they where designed to be used.

I used to but nicks and scratches are inevitable if you're going to wear it.

I work in Construction & Waste Management.

I've tried many many times but I just don't feel comfortable wearing a £5,000 Rolex in that environment.....

While it never bothered me one iota wearing my Explorer II (which I took in payment of a long-written-off debt) at work I just can't bring myself to swop 10-tonne lifting chains, hammer the crap outa 100kg bucket pins, operate heavy plant, carry out greasy mechanical repairs on antiquated heavy plant or hand-sift/sample through various recycled soil, stone, concrete & rock wearing a watch that cost me £5,000!!

If anyone thinks I'm babying it or "missing the point of owning a Rolex" then too bloody right I am!!

I bought my Rolex watches to enjoy 'for best' & hand down to my sons.....
not beat the sh!t out of on some sh!t-filled recycling centre or cess-pit groundworks site!

Having said all that they still only get a lick & a wipe with a t-shirt after a weekendswear so I don't think I'm too 'obsessive' about them!

It is not about the watches. Anything that costs in the thousands, we get finnicky about taking care of it, otherwise we feel we're doing injustice to the $$ we spent.
If I won the lotto, I would wear the rolexes while I amchiseling marble from a quarry ... but if I won the lotto, I will have someone else chiselling marble for me!! I will run these watches into the ground like there is no tomorrow ...

And If today I knew that this is my last day, I will wear one on each hand and one on each ankle and run them into the ground as much as possible ...

But until then, I baby them ...

Like I have always said, these Rolexes are to be taken care of and can only be abused to a certain point. These are not G-shocks. You drop one to the ground or hit it in the door jam, something just might go wrong with them...

I say sell the Daytona and use the money for some serious counsoling. It is a watch not a Faberge crystal egg. Wear the watch, enjoy the watch, put your personal history (scratches) on it.

Just my opinion.

Worn daily, but with respect.....meaning that if I'm doing something I think may be 'dangerous' for the watch (e.g. arc-welding, BASE jumping into a cave, repairing a car) I'll take it off.....

Outside of that, it stays on the wrist - scratches = character and remind me of living my life while wearing my watch and not living my life and babying my watch!

I really enjoy my watch. Really I do. However, when wearing it my left arm is notably handicapped. I cannot swing it around as freely and I carry it slightly away from my body so as not to brush against any zips, presstuds or buckles etc. Doorframes are a real hinderance. As are lampposts LOL. All this in favour of wearing a Rolex! I know I'm not alone! ...Am I??

My GMTIIc is the first luxury watch I've owned.
Had it only 3 months and it gets pampered.

To me it's an accessory rather than a tool, something I wear on weekends, nights out and holidays.
For the daily grind I have something else to take the blows.
