Cost deviation on dial misprint

I am in possesion of a GMT Master II in stainless steel with the red/blue bezel and on the dial instead of the traditional "GMT Master II" print it has "GMT Master ll"

I was wondering if anyone has heard of any premiums attached to the misprint.

I have heard that there are only 200 of these misprinted dials on the steel GMT Master II with the red/blue bezel, however I cannot verify this number. I'm hoping the experts here may be able to shine some light on this for me. I have attached a picture. Thanks!

I was also hoping to get some feedback as far as desirability of a misprint. Personally I consider a misprint a defect and would rather have the traditional dial, however I can see the rational that the misprint is very slight and kind of cool that it's different.

Thanks Mike, thats about all the information I've been able to find also. I'm not looking to sell the watch, but I'm wondering if in the long term it would add any value to the watch being a different dial font.

So let me understand this.

A small town AD was called by NY about "misprints" by Rolex. These (this?) AD told corporate to "stuff it" they will sell them all and do as they please.

These are so rare (fewer than 200?) that several members of this forum (what, a fraction of a percent of Rolexes sold) have managed to get hold of some, even though the "Asian market" is buying them up as fast as they see them.

Because of this "misprint" these rogue AD's might be asking a premium as a favor to the buyer, since they are going contrary to a corporate decision to return them.

Well....perhaps.

To explore this further: Let me ask all D series GMT's. Identify your's, II or not
Let me ask all F model GMT's. Identify your's, II or not

My F9******* is "II"

It's not as if this were a double-strike coin or upside down stamp.

Anything can become a collectible if you and at least one other person want to make a market in the item.

Maybe in 40 years it might bring a premium being an odd one, you never know.

Just for reference the photo of the GMT that I posted is a D serial #.

I have another D serial # GMT master II with the Red/Blue bezel and it has the regular II font, so I assume this is not the norm.

Remove the caseback and check the movement.

I should add the photo that Hannes took that I posted on TZ were of two Z series watches. It seems these dials have appeared on several series. It could be simply two different dial makers.
As to collectability, who knows.

I juz don't understand why there are such discrepancy . First was the discrepancies on the SD 's minute markers below the wordings "SWISS MADE" from different series as I have observed from mine . And now it is the discontinued GMT II 16710. Is is due to changes in the later series that we are not aware of or simply QC failings?? Perhaps the more informed owners of the SD & GMT II can clarify the whole thing??

Well would doubt just different dial makers using slightly different fonts. Its not like if they were stamps say if Queens head was upside down, or if the Rolex font was downside up etc.

Well, I would at least TRY to stress the point of the "II / ||" in a selling situation. But you might make the buyer suspicious if he is not into those tiny WIS details and he might think it is a fake and will be wanting to see the movement and so on.

Just so that you are prepared for this, I mean (I am NOT saying it's a fake)
