There is still a big class divide in this country and it is not necessarily based on wealth, it is based on attitude. Although money does have a contributing factor, the forum i mentioned does not indicate you financial situation, but people look at your car and if it is not to the same spec as theirs or better, you are somehow a lesser person. Unlike on here where you have some guys with numerous expensive time pieces in varying precious metals, but there is no snobbery, however on that particular forum a guy with say a 500slk amg fully loaded, a porsche for a sunday runabout and a Bentley GT for special occassions takes one look at muy sorry old e class and thinks 'scumbag' That is how shallow people are over here. Sad but true. Lots of people are nowmoving abroad because this country is going downhill fast......especially with all the immigrants coming in.

We join groups like this for enjoyment, friends and knowledge. Well, at least I do.

There's too much strife and dissension in every day life without looking for more.

I have found this forum and it's members to be quite friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoy my time spent here and it's a great pleasure to find others with common interests.

You are absolutely spot on there. I have never met such a bunch of stuck up people than us Brits. They look down at you if you're not wearing the right clothes or as you say drive the right car. It's no wonder people in the UK are in so much debt, just trying to keep up with each other. I make people laugh when I'm home because the two cars I use are both ancient. My main car is a 1984 Audi Coupe GT and the second car is a 1976 Ford Capri 1600 GL. If and when I have to buy new it will probably be a Volkswagen Passat when I could afford any car I wanted.

Anyway back to the forum. It was an empty shell when a bunch of us were ousted from another forum and had nowhere to go. This was the ideal place as it was setup and hardly used. It was founded by friends and has kept that friendly approach which I believe is it's strength.

I joined this forum a few months ago; great information, friendly people who are willing to assist others and very enjoyable to monitor and participate.

I beleive we all have a common bond with regard to Rolex; and this is the place.

Just my two cents!

I must say that in England (where I have lived) there is little to no social-mobility. If your parents are thick - chances are you'll stay in the "comp'" (State school for you Yanks) and get a bad job etc.. If your parents are bright even if you yourself aren't you will have much better chances in life in terms of schooling and the class of people you grow up with. JMO

Class system in the UK.Very true.Even in sport.Lower classes play soccer, higher classes play rugby.See the crowds at Anfield vs Twickenham.Very different.

Also, I think the main reason for "bling"* is to show you have money. I think it shows you didn't start out with any and don't know how to use it once you have it. Why must we prove to strangers how wealthy we are? In England we are known for being sloppy when outside and not dressing up to go to the shops. We obviously don't care as a nation and that's why it stands out.

*By that I mean tacky jewellery and what once were prestige items (e.g. Burberry hats).

Love the forum BECAUSE of the members. I initially joined for research, but now that I'm here, I'm hooked.

Also (for the record), a BMW is a DRIVER'S Mercedes. If I wanted to sit in a nice car and not drive, I'd hire a chauffeur.

I left the UK in 1999 to live in Canada..Best thing I ever did! I just cannot take the apathy and snobism (reverse included!) that abounds in the UK. There are some really wonderful folks there but they are being drowned out by the rest of them.
I do still spend extended times in Scotland which is quite different from England where I grew up. There is more space up there which helps.
I can fly direct from Vancouver to Scotland now so can cut England altogether! It makes me sad to have to say that but I just find England so depressing and if you have a good idea and it's a bit different then it garners little or no support, in fact it attracts a kind of loathing! Three weeks after I arrived in Vancouver I had more friends than I did in thirty years of living in small town Devon! If you have a good idea here folks champion it much more. Just my two cents worth!
I read an article the other day saying that British people are becoming the biggest export from the UK!

TOSSERS!
I know EXACTLY what you mean!

I have been a member of a German Rolex forum, and when I asked about something in my VERY first post, I got the reply from the moderator:

"Einfach mal die Boardsuche benutzen, DANKE!!!"
(Just use the "Search" option, THANK YOU)

When I objected to that kind of tone, I was kicked out, without any warning!

Luckily, I now know that that German forum is famous for being RUDE! And a LOT of members have gone from there by their own will.

Now I am member of another German watch forum, and there it is much nicer, even though SOME of the members from the OTHER forum still give me a hard time. Like a Kinder Garten, that is

I agree: TRF IS the BEST Rolex forum on Planet Earth! Period!

Talking of the Oxford Dictionary..........by far the best usage of the English language I have seen on this forum recently is "obsidian" to describe the new GMT II bezel.
I cant find the post now, but what a great word

Lets not even get started about "Time Zone". Heaven forbid you ask about a price, discount, or a link to where you can buy a strap. Lot of Anal retentiveness and watch snobs on that forum.

Read this somewhere.

'Soccer is a gentlemen's game played by hooligans whereas rugby is a hooligans' game played by gentlemen.'

Yeah, that will last a long time! Be sure to put some post out about prices with some links! ha ha ha ha

Hell, I got a post deleted and a warning for only stating that a Rolex had a better resell value and was easier to resell than other watch brands!

Of, course I am on probation on this forum as well and have infraction points added to my profile. LOL LOL LOL

The Time Zone also has a difficult format that is hard to read post. Don't like the set up.

Rolex owners

Although I have not been on here very long I too get the impression that the members are more than happy to assist everybody and are very friendly.

What I am about to say may disturb and shock some but that is not my intention... and above all is not my opinion...

Many people actually think that guys with Rolexes are stuck up rich people who like to show off "Look what I have on my wrist" because many Rolexes are very distinctive with the gold and the colored bezels. I have an Omega Constellation Megaquartz 2.4 Mhz for that
But to me it is just another hobby, or interest in mechanical wonders which can be appreciated by anybody high or low 'class'. So no need for being rude or anything like that, especially on forums where people go to get information about things they like.
Do not kick my ass for saying this , as stated above a common misconception but not on my part.
By the way I am still waiting for some info on my reference 1029

Wealth and 'class' are not necessarily Siamese twins, but there are exceptions.
