Need Sub Advice PLEASE HELP!!!!
So a local jewler got in a Submariner. I'm thinking about buying it. She said the year was 1983 which i would imagine makes it a 16800? She said it just got back from service and authentication and she has paperwork and the box, she said it is in good condition. The jewler is selling it for $4995+tax. Good Price? any advice or opinions on this model? is it collectable?

I think one in good condition can be had for less than 5K.

So that'd be $5300-ish with 7% Ohio sales tax - not a deal really.
Look through the classifieds here on TRF for a better feel for current prices on Subs. In fact the deals here are better than that. For example in April - I sold a 2005 Non-COSC Submariner 14060M (Serial #F898xxx) for $4400. And bought a 2009 COSC Sub from another seller here for less than $5000. BTW - no tax either.

If it has an early matte dial, is all original and in good shape, and truly has a verifiable service, this could be a nice acquisition...
16800's were only made for a few years and the matte dials are starting to show up on collector radar.......
