Looking for advice on Wedding Bands

Hey All,

My girlfriend and I are getting married in 2 weeks (in Santorini no less!) and we are now looking for my wedding band. We live in Amsterdam so there's not an abundance of jewelers to select from here. We looked at Tiffany and Cartier yesterday, and I found this:

I like that quite a bit. It's simple, modern, elegant, and the polish matches my Daytona which I quite like.

My question is.. is it silly to spend so much on something so simple, and I'm wondering if any of you have recommendations of other jewelers (on or offline) that you prefer.

Being such a simple design, you might be able to find an independent jeweler that has something similar for less $. You pay for the name...

Look at jamesallen.com. Hubby and I were married with simple gold bands. We've put on some pounds over 27 years so we recently got new bands. I'm wearing diamonds, he's wearing a titanium band.

I have a Tiffany's platinum wedding ring and I love the design and it is made extremely well. It is something you have for life so it really isn't that expensive in the grand scheme of things especially when you compare it to the ring we buy our wives.

Don't get platinum, get white gold. My platinum wedding band was only good when it was new, it is a real scratch magnet. From what I heard white gold holds up much better in terms of scratches. Congrats!

Tiffany's will polish their Platinum bands for free anytime you reqest it, so I suggest the Milgrain 6mm. Perfect match for the GMTIIc/SS.

I picked up my white gold band from a pawn shop for a couple of bucks over scrap, back when gold was cheap. Gave about 80.00 for it at the time.

I suggest platinum Tiffany band. Very understated and durable. Besides, I only wear SS watches, so this was the perfect choice!

Cartier by far over Tiffany. Tiffany is in too many malls now. Carties is timeless. Otherwise try blue nile? ALOT of friends of mine in diamond business use that website for their own purchases.

It's a plain 14k gold band I bought at Wal-Mart for 75 bucks several years ago. Im not much on rings and its fine for me....just dont ask me how much the wife's cost.....my advice is not that great either.
I would ask your future wife to pick it out.
If she's not happy you wont be happy.....

You can't go wrong with an plain band. My platinum band is from Cartier.

If you like gold, get gold. If you like platinum, get platinum. But whatever you do, don't get a white gold band.

Congrats. Over the course of a lifetime, you're really not spending that much. And I'm a platinum guy myself (love the weight). Check out the selection on Bluenile.com. And just a suggestion - I would go for the 'comfort fit' option whenever possible.

Platinum does not lose any material when scratched, then subsequently polished. Gold loses material in both instances.

Can't go wrong with a platinum Tiffany wedding band. And if you should ever lose it, it's not hard to replace and the missus should be none the wiser.....

A nice perk when buying from Tiffany's. I have had mine polished several times and they are always very accommodating.

I can up that one... NYC Cartier polishes and redips a fresh coat of rhodium any time you stop in at no charge. Not sure if the smaller boutiques can accomodate it but FYI for anyone visiting the city

I have a custom platinum band, it is a scratch magnet and weighs a lot for ring of its size. I am not bothered about scratches, its nice and shiney on the inside.

Honestly I'm getting married next summer and I think I'm getting a plain titanium band for around $100. I don't like rings at all and I don't care to have a cheap durable band. My Fiance has a nice platinum engagement ring but not for me. She has had it 6 months and its already scratched up. I like fancy watches, cars, and boats but could careless what my wedding band is made of. A few of the guys I hang out with have titanium bands and like them.

I'm not wearing my wedding right this second because it's too tight on my finger. Not sure if it's weight, or because I'm on creatine AND eating a ton of sunflower seeds so I think my finger might be a bit swollen. Painful to take off and put on so it's sitting on my sink for now.

Platinum is great, but I don't think you should to go through Tiffany's to get it. You're basically paying extra simply because of that blue box it comes in when no one would ever know the difference anyway.

I wear a 4.5mm platinum ring that cost me about $1100 in the States, and I think the same ring goes for about $1900 at Tiffany's.

One idea. We went with custom work. Everything was custom. We had a designer in town do all the work and it did not cost as much as some might think.

Just picked up a matte platinum band from blue nile and at a little over 18 gr in weight its wicked value and quality

Tried a few others on, looked around a few other places, but despite the price, this one felt 'right'. I'll have it next Thursday, and then we leave for Greece on Friday.

Excellent choice on a band. I have the 4mm version and love it. It will develop a nice patina on it. At first I was worried the sharp edges would be a problem, but I actually like the feel of it.

Very nice...the ring you picked out and here's to a long and prosperous marriage and partnership. If someday you plan on getting new rings find a jeweler you like who makes custom jewelry. This way you and your wife have unique rings!!!
