Newbie with questions...

Hi. Just found the forum and just joined, great place! I have a Rolex and of course, it comes with a story. I took it in trade from a friend of mine who actually won it for like 'salesman of the year' at an auto dealership back when auto dealers were in their heyday...I am pretty sure it is legit, have no reason to doubt my friend, but would like someone more experienced than me to pass judgement on it and if possible give an indication of its value. Also don't know if I would have a chance of selling it without all the papers.....Thanks in advance for the help. Pictures should be attached....Jim

Are they up now? I am so technologically challenged...Had to drop the file size down....
I should have mentioned that the 5 digit number on each end of the band matches....
And I did find the serial number in Submarino's list of Most Rolex Numbers, thanks for that, seems its a Datejust? even though it say Submariner...

I can clearly see the LEC not a good sign. The pearl looks to big as well. The marker between at 6 o'clock between Swiss Made looks a bit thick. I think the other markers should line up under the S in Swiss and A in made. There should be even distance between the marker before the S in Swiss and after the E in Made. Everything should line up perfectly this dial does not.

Sorry

Fake. The papers are wrong. The dial print is off. You can see the LEC(Laser etched coronet). The cyclops mag is les than 2.5. The pearl doesn't look right. The winder crown and dots look not quite right.

Oh yeah I just noticed the crown has two dots rather than three

This is an obvious fakes with all the telltale signs. This is a text book how to spot a fake example.

Sorry man...your friend lied.

Please understand we get a lot of people asking us if a watch is fake only because they want to know how obvious a fake it is they already know it's fake they just want to know if it will fool anyone.

Therefore giving you the benefit of the doubt that your story is true...what are you going to say to your friend.

Gonna tell him the truth. Don't know where he got the watch but it's a fake,
Take it up with the guy who sold it. He wasn't aware either. Hopefully it all works out thanks to all who helped.

Something smells fishy.... like he "got it from his dad"..sorry but I agree, sounds like someone wanted to try to wear it or god forbid sell it, and see if it will pass...hopefully thats not the case but something seems off...off like how fake the watch is....

You said that "I took it in trade from a friend of mine who actually won it for like 'salesman of the year' at an auto dealership back when auto dealers were in their heyday"

Pretty simple really..You go to the dealership where "your friend" won it and ask to see the GM. They will have records (for tax reasons) on when and where the watch was purchased.....At that point if the docs dont line up the dealership can trace it back to where they got it and so on...I would suspect that this is as far as it will go....

I have been in touch with him and hopefully he will do the honorable thing. The guy had lost his job and needed some cash, so being the nice guy I am I wanted to help out, but not get stung, figure I could send him some cash to help out but figured I had the watch as collaterall....to cover my butt....He's been cool about working it out, good idea about the dealership, records, taxes etc....I'm going to mention it to him.

Hopefully he'll just fess up. I highly doubt he won a fake Rolex from the dealership...then again if he was selling used cars maybe it's not that far fetched.

...LOOK at some of the OBVIOUS...

...for example, 16233 on the attestation.

...16233 is a DJ ref#-NOT a Sub ref#.

...even the thumbnail recess appears OVAL, square edged-NOT concave as it should be.

...etc, etc, etc.

I've yet to see a real one with the rehaut showing clearly all the way around in a close-up of the dial.

That's a good point just looking at my SD at the same angle I can't do it.
