I wouldn't dwell on your decision at all.

I had a similar experience a few years ago. My AD called as my name had came up for a white dialed SS Daytona (after quite a while on the waiting list no less). However, even after the wait and build up I decided to take a pass.

A few years later I got the chrono itch again and went for a Speedy Pro. I know, I know.... it is not a Daytona or even a Rolex but man I love this watch. Wearing it today in fact. To me the Speedy Pro simply checks all the boxes and you can pick one up NIB for around $3K. That is hard to beat!

So I guess my advice is two fold: 1) don't look back on your decision & 2) if you are still looking for a chrono try the Omega.

WRONG ANALOGY. It is not about price unless you are sure you want what you are buying. And, most obviously, you are not. If you passed this up 3 times, keep on passing. 12 grand is allot of money.

Too right...don't understand the popularity of the white dial.

Look at it this way - you are 7500 pounds better of and you still have a Daytona.

It fits much better inder the cuff of a dress shirt than the GMTs or Subs, like an Explorer int hat regard.

No date was thought to be an issue before I got it but not as much of an issue anymore -though I do still miss a date.

Just my two-cents as a daytona owner and fan.
Agree with you on the readability of the sub-dails on my black face Daytona - just order red sub-dail and sweep seconds hand to help with that (IMO it should come from Rolex that way).

Great fit under the shirt too!

I can't warm up to the Daytona. You made a wise decision if you're not sure.

If you didn't buy there was a reason. I too had a similar circumstance a few months ago on a BNIB SS Daytona. I bought it, and ended up flipping it a few weeks later. All of the things I thought I would not like about came true. For me no date, hard to read time and too small on my wrist were deal killers. I think I bought 'just because it was available' and that is not a reason to buy.

Go with your heart and there's always a Rolex out there for you when you do decide

Having thought about it a little more I think it was just the price point these things now stand at that put me off. If it was £6k I'd be all over it but I think I'm starting to realise that rolex maybe pricing themselves a bit too high. It not that I can't afford it it just I don't think it represents value for money anymore. Similarly the TT sub at £8,110 is getting a little bit crazy although available discounts on the sub tend to bring this back to reality. I'll definitely be giving this more thought so maybe next time I'll go for it.

It has been said already, no need to feel bad. If you change your mind you'll get another opportunity. These are no purchases to take lightly

I'm not so sure luxury items are ever value for money, but i do know what you are saying. I just purchased a blak dial ss for £8,200 from a reputable grey dealer.

For that kind of money, you can't be half-hearted. It's gotta be so compelling that you wouldn't give it a second thought . The fact that you didn't pull the trigger tells me it wasn't for you.

beautiful watch...but a total scratch magnet. I've owned mine for 4 years worn it less than 20 times :(

I should sell or trade it.

P.S every collector should own one at one time or another...

I wear it most of the time on a strap.

I never became fully attached to my SS Daytona - and I had the black dial also.

But the white gold (116509) has been a different story altogether.

For me the sub + GMT are right on the money with their SS models - The Daytona SS never really competed with them for wear.

But in all gold the Daytona is the watch for me - it's size and balance is perfect....and the dials are sublime. The sub/gmt all gold models didn't offer the same feel when I tried them on.

A compromise would be do do as many have done on here and change the SS dial for an all gold version- keeping the price down.

....

Only buy watches that you're truly passionate about.... after all, this isn't a rational choice. It needs to feel right in the heart.

Very true. I need to separate the hype from my own desire. I think I will pull the trigger next time.

Bought a SS white face last weekend. Walked into an AD and they had one. Sales must have been slow - when ever I have asked over the past 10 years at any AD they either politely chuckled or looked at me like I had 2 heads. I lost a bit of sleep the first 2 nights only because of the cash I parted with but now I am over it and love the watch. I feel confident that it is the one watch I can own for as long as I want and if I ever wanted to sell it, it wouldnt be a problem.
