Given that this is a "tool watch" it does seem parts should be slightly easier(cheaper) to replace. Must say the OP is getting a little stick now but I think he has handled this well,he just damaged his Rolex which if his fault or not, is not easy to take, now seems to accept it was banged, lets remember he was all ready to pay the $500 before he got calls from here to ring Rolex, not sure if I would be as ready to accept it was my fault as quick, given where the dent is,I would be thinking a bang there would have resulted in the pearl dropping out straight away, not after all memory of a bang had gone away, could it not be also possible that the "dent" to have been there from the factory?....... ok probably a bang but still hard to take. |

This is one of those situations that simply turns out to be an accident caused by the wearer. Yes it is a shame that it happened, and it also sucks that it costs so much, but It is respectable that Rolex took the time to take photographs showing how they came to their diagnosis. I was going to mention earlier that you may be able to ask for photographs so you can see the damage yourself, but i was unsure if canada would provide the same treatment I've experienced in the past.
I'm glad to see that all Rolex service centers provide similar treatment. Sorry that such a thing happened, but at least Rolex is there to put the watch back in perfect condition. That's much more than i can say for any auto accident/repair popularly used for comparison. Kyle |

A kind of off topic question to the poster of the thread. Do you find it akward wearing this watch in a trades related career becuase of its size sticking out while you are doing jobs etc? I was wondering?

Well the OP's thread is quite clear.
rolex warranty sucks This blanket statement does not sit well with me. My experience with the Australian RSC in Melbourne has been the very opposite. I dropped in a 14060m that was feeling very rough when winding. This was 'K' s/n that I bought from a Forum member in the States. They rang me after about two weeks and told me that they had stripped the watch and that a fault with the auto winding mechanism had been fixed. They then sent the watch registered to my office in Adelaide with no charge for the service or the postage. Rolex service is great IMO but perhaps my approach was different?

Poor design, IMO. First thing I noticed when I bought mine. Why does it need to stick up like that? What, did they save money by not countersinking it?
Did Rolex refuse to warranty the bracelets where the welds broke? Wouldn't that have been external? |

I had bought my Sub LV new last year from an AD and 9 months later, the seconds hand came completely off the stem inside the case. Don't know what happened. My AD sent it to Rolex in NY from NC and fixed the problem, even serviced it because it was running a little fast. The AD an Rolex gave me no problems. Even sent servicing paperwork. Anything worked on by Rolex should be treated this way and sent back with paperwork. If this doesnt happen for you, call Rolex Headquarters in NY and consult them. Your AD sounds shady.

I went through the same ordeal for my PAM and they kept it over night for BS reasons and told me I had to pay $400 dollars for a dial that was lumed defectively. I said screw it and walked out. RSC is top notch. Hands down. |

Given the age of the watch, Rolex should have offered to replace, but charged less than a regular replacement for say an older ceramic. It would have been good customer service on their part to offer a little bit of a discount, IMO, given the age of the watch, and the fact that the OP had just purchased it.
But, bottom lines are important to, and Rolex is a business just like any other. |

Wow, when you think that replacing an older aluminium bezel insert did cost almost nothing.... And that you could replace the pearl itself for really nothing.....
I cannot understand why they did not manage to build a ceramic bezel with a replaceable pearl..... Not a tool watch anymore, for sure.... |

Well, I, for one, am glad that you have the issue sorted out.. What does suck is that you have to pay another 500 clams to fix your watch..
But sometimes we have a good day, and sometimes we have a bad day..
