I hope you don't sign off, Adrian.

If you remember there was a time just a couple of weeks after the new ownership kicked in there was a spate of posts that older members were getting fed up with.

It sorted itself out in due course.

Adrian,
While I have participated in some of the threads you are talking about, most of us were just trying to have friendly discussions about other avenues that may interest us. I completley agree that there is a few members that utterly ruin those threads (and many others) with this Rambo mentallity you speak of. ( I could name them but whats the use?) And, again, I agree about the utter lack of respect for our friends from other countries. Inexcusible. But, please don't let a few bad apples destroy the whole bushell for you.
I would hope you could stay on the forum longer, I am sure many of us have benifited from your being a member here.

I'd be sorry to see you go.......but if the forum is no fun for you anymore then the best thing to do is leave.
This is, after all, meant to be a fun past time....I log in after getting home from a hard day at work, for a bit of relaxation.
I just ignore any posts that I'm not interested in....life's too short !

I love this forum. It has the greatest info on Rolex. Its also not just about watches ,but people too.People with different backgrounds, viewpoints, interests etc. That what makes it interesting. If everybody had the same view,it would have been pointless to be here.It would have been pretty damn boring.

Adrian: an old friend here...I haven't posted here in a while but I saw this thread and couldnt resist...

I spend most of my time at a forum dedicated to politics as I am the parent of someone who fought in the Iraq War and I am an outspoken critic, no details necessary...

What does that have to do with guns and knives? Well, maybe nothing but I think we both have lived long enough and seen enough to know when things are going in the wrong direction, whether it be on a wristwatch forum or in the world in general.

On forums like this one, we must keep our politics to ourselves, or good friendships can be torn apart, I know from personal experience in the real world.

Maybe discussions about guns in a time when so much of the world is at each others throats, is something bound to cause issues on a benign forum like this one.

Well, I have said enough, I respect your wishes and wish for you nothing but good health and prosperity !

This has always been a good forum with a family atmosphere I've made a lot of good friends and I hope they stay in touch. Steve and the moderators have done a fantastic job and the membership has grown out of all proportion. Unfortunately the growth has attracted some unsavory characters and I can't take anymore of the Ramboesque comments or posts. To those involved, grow up and get a life. To the rest all my best wishes for the future. I will keep my membership open so I can receive PM's.

Thanks for all the fun but it's just not funny now.

Adrian.
Do you remember the scene at the end of one of the Rocky films .... Adrian !! Adrian !!

Adrian: As a old friend from TURF I would urge you to directly address your concerns to either the offending party or the mods via private PM. Try that first.

I personally see no problem with General Forum posts about other hobbies such as pens, knives or guns. Its like television. If a particular show offends you, there are 300 other channels. You can even block obnoxious posters, I believe.

I am not sure what you are referring to regaring intolerance for other countries/cultures. That type of post has no place here. There's no quicker way to create problems than talk of politics or religion.

Please reconsider.

I'm really sorry to see you go as well. I just joined a little over a week ago and after reading Uncle AJ's post, I've started to really think about what he had said. I kinda feel guilty now since I am a new member and one of the people he could possibly be talking about could be me. I feel guilty that he is leaving the forum. But I have always been very courteous to everybody and have answered many member's questions and given them kind feedback. This is such a nice place, I have not seen any offensive comments at all whenever Im logged on here.

I remember that Uncle AJ was one of the TRF members to have given me a very warm welcome on my first post. I thank him very much always for that. I just hope that I am not one reason why he is leaving. I wish you the very best buddy and hope to see you back online soon...

Hi Adrian.
I am new here, this is only the second forum I have joined. I left the last one because of the exact thing you mention.
The rambo's of this world have got us into the position we are in now, a great deal of unrest and violence. Yet the Rambos of this world continue to bully with their words and god help you if you disagree!
Well, a message to the Rambo's(you know who you are!) decent people have had enough of your immature biggoted outlook on life, Why don't you go find somwhere else to spout your words I can assure you you will not be missed!

To the Adrians of this world. I applaud you for making a stand, from what I have read this forum is on the whole a place of good people . Let's let the good people have a say for once.
Please stay Adrian, your knowlege and humour is a great asset. and to the Rambos, well, I for one have had enough of what you spout, your desire for free speach is at a huge cost to others

Just my two cents worth.

WOW! Some people are painting with a very broad brush here my friends.

Just because someone is a gun enthusiast does not make him a Rambo or a psycho. Maybe he’s just exercising his rights per the 2nd amendment - that is something you cannot take away from him. I know on the “other” board, your post will be deleted if it has a picture of any firearms. I was really surprised when I saw pictures of guns here, I even asked in my earlier posts and was told it was okay. I am a gun enthusiast and have several guns and rifles (I can probably buy three more sports model Rolex if I sell some of them). I carry a pistol for protection of my family and myself. I shoot inanimate objects (read: mostly metal and paper targets) for fun and practice BUT I DO NOT HUNT/KILL ANIMALS FOR FUN NOR FOOD! Yes, there are psycho gun owners who are just waiting for any excuse to shoot someone, be it someone stealing their hub caps, beer from their pick up bed, etc.

I believe in live and let live that’s why even if someone is into pink high heels and tights I won’t hold it against him. Whatever floats your boat, YMMV.

Yes, the world is crawling with racist rednecks, but that's not gonna stop me from doing what I like doing - I like shooting and I like Rolex(es).

P.S., I have not posted any pictures of my guns and I don’t think I’ve even talked about my guns here (until now).

Thanks for a balanced post, much appreciated. I know though that this is an international forum so as you will appreciate in some countries there are different laws, this will I guess add to the confusion.
I appologise to anyone I may have offended in my Rambo remarks.
I do not however take back one word regarding the racsit remarks and the implications therof. Quite simply there is no place anywhere IMHO for racsist derogetory remarks about any persons homeland, culture, relgious beliefs and sexual preferences(straight or gay)

Once again, thank you granddaddy for your informed intelligent post

History ,past and present cannot be denied. Its facts, not opinions. If history turns out to be Ramboesque,in itself,we have to face up and look it straight in the eye.To be quite frank, your interpretation of someones opinion,is off.I dont think in any way that it was racist. He was merely stating the facts,of the current situation. To imply that someone is a racist,is offensive. You have never had the oppertunitty to meet. How do you know then ? You need to apologize Ian !!!! ...and you need to apologize to him directly.

Btw,Ian,that Gert van Rooyen missing girls case, surfaced again. Some new techniques(Qantum physics) combined with a person in the same field as you are lead to the finding of some bones in a desolate field, just more than a mile from his house.I program was screened, last Sunday .DNA testing still being conducted. They have hair from 3 of the girls, that they are trying to match to the bones. It was a fascinating program.

I'm real sorry to see you go AJ.
It's a matter of great minds thinking alike here. You and I are both senior in years and I can fully understand the reasons WHY you have decided to give TRF a break.

I won't say left for good as I hope you won't.

The decline in standards of postings with implied references to matters that really should NOT have been raised have also convinced me to take my leave of TRF as well.

This is supposed to be a watch forum. Some of the posts I have read over the last few days are simply bad form.

Ciao for now

Ian, all I did was state some facts about South Africa and what the current situation is. Speaking out against evil is never wrong. If you want to be offended go to the Jokes forums. You are the one in your post that have been degragatory and assuming. Calling and implying someone is a rascist or an immature bigot is pretty strong and you better have something to back it up. Telling someone they ought to leave the forum and will not be missed, shows yourself to be the one that is insulting. Don't be so oversensitive. If being "Rambo" is defined as someone who is a gun enthusiast, likes to hunt, and/or was in the military, then that would define probably about half the people on this forum. I think some need to remember this is the "Open Discussion" forum where "Friends" can get together to discuss various topics of interest. If you are not into guns, cars, computers, international affairs, photography, etc.. then just do not not open or participate in that thread. ANd BTW, speaking out against a moral wrong, perversion, or social injustice is not "rascist".

Geez, I have seemed to miss alot today. I am regretful to see such turmoil. The only thing I could add is that we all have to remember that the large cultural diversity of this forum is it's STRENGTH. There is room here for everyone who wants to be part of it. I've said it before, this is a great group of people and I love the personality of this board.

As we grow, we may need to try and be a little more senstive to others. I don't think there are many here who would purposely try to offend another, but sometimes in our whackiness, things could easily be misunderstood. Hopefully, we can all move forward from this!

Sorry to see you go also Adrian, but I believe you are making a good decision as is Tardis. And I have been pondering the same also.
Many people hide behind the "I can say what I want, to hell with everyone else, this is a public forum" attitude. Its an internet forum, try saying some of those things really in public.....see how far you get.
Anyway good luck Adrian.......

I would really like to see someone give links to or quote these so called rascist or bigoted Post, outside of the Jokes section, that some are finding so offensive. I mean yeah, in the jokes section there is always something to offend someone (hec, recently there was a joke by a moderator about a Black guy with a 2x4 up his ass looking like a Fudgesickle). Then there are all the sheep jokes, and sexist stuff about women, or provocative photos, etc.. But where are the major insults to someone's country, culture or ethnicity - other than maybe a little jest between friends the way men tend to joke around with good friends? Where are these things that are said in this forum, that you could not say in Public? I know I personnally would have no problem repeating anything I have posted here on this forum in public.

I think some are jsut being too oversensitive and Politically Correct.

AJ and Tardis, I do hope you both stay on this forum. If there are post by members of this forum that you don't like then ignore or PM the poster directly with your concerns.

Adrian, I'm sorry to lose you as a member, and I do hope you'll reconsider. If you've made up your mind, I'll unwillingly respect that, but please do talk to any of the other mods or myself, and I hope we can work through these issues.
