At this point in the iPod's life, we were hearing that the latest versions were "disappointments" because they weren't 200% better than the previous models. We were told that PlaysFerSure was going to walk away with all of it, Microsoft had hit a home run. Or maybe it was the Zune that would be the music player home run. Not sure which. Anyway, the only thing geeks knew with certainty in 2005 was that Apple was going to lose the MP3 player market and probably lose their slim share of PC sales. That much was "certain". Mango is a Microsoft product that will not be mandated by IT. How has ANY Microsoft product ever fared without IT forcing people to use it? We could look to the Xbox, but can MS really pour billions of subsidy into Mango after seeing that Xbox was never able to earn back the loses? And Jeff Bezos just sentenced ICS to living death. The Android OS that can dominate will remain the same one it has always been... "The next one". WebOS tried that trick for awhile, and never even recovered the cost of development. I totally get that hatred can cloud judgement, but it would take more than an Orwellian "five minutes of rage" to push the historical record and the current data into the background! Quote:

It doesn't make sense for Apple to release a newly redesigned iPhone, most of the punters that bought the iPhone 4 will still have time on their two year contracts, those that have a 3GS will update to the 4S, those that have the 4 will wait till June 2012 and upgrade on a new contract to the iPhone 5.
The IP4S still has newer features that keep it still in the race with other manufacturers.. The iPhone 3 was redesigned after a two year stint, so why not the IP4? JMHO.

Personally for a phone I prefer something with a physical QWERTY keyboard . . . the touchscreen works well on the iPad, but to me it's a bit difficult to use on the much smaller iPhone screen. |

I cannot say that I fully agree with you there. The 3.5 inch screen cannot possibly be yesterday's hardware. It is simply a physical number. That's like saying 17 inch monitors are yesterday's technology because now you can by a 27 inch or whatever. Different people like different sizes, that's all. I have phones in every size that is currently being produced today, from the diminutive HP Veer 4G to the gargantuan Samsung at 4.5 inches and the humongous Windows running HTC Titan at a massive 4.7 inches. Anything over 4 is simply too big for me. Hard to hold. Hard to operate with one hand. Nice for consumption of media but crappy for everything else. Now on to the OLED. IMHO, the Apple display is vastly superior to the Samsung AMOLED display. Why? The iPhone still has the highest resolution and the most pixels per inch out of any phone in the world. I'd rather have resolution and clarity vs an AMOLED display that I do not care for. Why don't I care for it? First off, the contrast is way to high and they all have a blue hue to them. The contrast is nice when looking at your home screen or watching cartoons but photos of people and landscape just look wrong and CGI. The colours are off and there is way too much contrast. It looks like somebody has a permanent Photoshop Multiply Layer on top of the original photo at all times. That's just me and my opinion though. Here is what I am carrying those days. The iPhone 4 is not in the pic. Since it's a watch forum...

Or, the upgrades are good enough to probably keep the Apple faithful and the others will jump on the 5!

But if you have Android and Apple and want apps on both then you have to buy apps twice!! (Unless you go for freebies only)

Wonder what will happen when you activate Siri and say "Call me a cab"
Will it come back at you and say "You're a cab!" |

Well in my view anyway, since I can get everything I'd want on the iPhone on my iPad . . . and I prefer a phone with a physical keyboard as I find text messaging and email to be a frustrating exercise on the small iPhone touch screen. . . therefore I don't see a strong case to get an iPhone for someone who already has an iPad, especially an iPad with 3G.
Maybe a closer call for someone who doesn't already have an iPad, however Dr. Brian (in the post I was responding to) said he's getting a iPad. |

I've got no dog in this fight, no apple shares nor am I a fanboy of the brand.
Pretty soon my mobile phone provider will need to be sending me a pressie to keep my business for another 24 months. I don't mind if it's an Iphone 4 or a Galaxy S2. Well perhaps the S2.

Alot of iOS5 "improvements" were actually taken from other apps
wifi sync - jailbroken app imessage - resembles whatsapp by using data for "sms" with other iphone users notification centre - lockinfo, another jailbroken app it seems that apple is just jumping on the jailbroken bandwagon and blatantly copying the small time developers.

RIM was always transparently a one-trick pony. Folks bet on the stock because they thought phones would always be shoved at you by a geek who derisively sneered "Deal with it". That's how desktop PCs are still distributed, why would phones be any different? I think if they'd been able to follow up on the super-pager and revolutionize pcs, portables, the music industry, retail store sales, online media distribution, OS software, etc, they might be a good comparison to AAPL. |

I have and use every day a Mac Mini, Macbook, Macbook Air and an iPad2. So as you can see I am a pretty big mac fan, and I wouldn't be if they didn't deliver the goods. I love their stuff.
However on this occasion there does seem to be widespread media consensus that Apple did not live up to expectations in circumstances where one would have expected under current technological developments an iPhone 5 with 4g and other leading features would have been announced.

I agree - I too have all this stuff and was very disappointed with this latest iPhone releases. Bittersweet for me though. If it has been an outstanding iPhone 5 update I would have regretted the Samsung move I recently made

I always had the backlit keyboard on the MacBook Air, its just that I moved from the first generation to the third generation (thanks to my sister buying my first generation off me).
I can't be held responsible if you happened to buy the second generation Air which unfortunately didn't have the backlit keyboard. There is still time for you to buy the third generation Air which has an i7 processor 1.8ghz

Well, I'm going to go out on limb here, as no-one seems to be so bold!
Right now, all the general public is hearing (via tech sites and media), is Apple has done to little or not enough. I think most, are just jumping on the wagon here without having a hands on experience or the effort to wait for it's release and see in real time. I understand most were looking for more, but really, how much more do you need?!?! Now I'm not tech junkie, but when I see improvements, I see a better product. We can all debate Apple has been slow on this meager release, but you can also bet Apple has an ace just around the corner. In the end, there's always going to be lovers and haters of any brand, but don't always believe what you hear and read in the media. Always take heed of what's physical and in front of you.

My typical Mac day:
1. Wake up and check out the news on iPad2. 2. In the office - Mac Mini. 3. Coffee and Fruit Toast at cafe - Macbook (black limited edition so I look cool ) 4. Back in the office - Mac Mini 5. Home after dinner - Macbook Air 6. In bed to get to sleep - iPad2

Correct, my Android Samsung Galaxy SII has all the same applications I have on my ipad2 and I love my Samsung because I can synchronise the time with both the GPS satellites and via the internet (something still not possible with the iPhone ).

Strange that you mention that though, my 3GS is currently 12 minutes fast, which pisses me off since it wakes me up 12 minutes earlier in the mornings, because my watches are all within about +1-2 and can be adjusted to 0 positionally they're dead on, the iPhone is always wrong.
