I've never come across a Rolex with a defective bezel or bracelet.....or even watchcase which is usually well protected with the plastic stickers. It's always the DIAL that has some fault or the other. Fortunately, it's very rare....but why take a chance? So I make it a firm point to always examine the DIAL BEFORE plonking down a single cent by way of payment. JJ

I have some specks on the dial of my DD. They are not on the original pix I took when I bought it. When I look at them with a 15x loupe I can clearly see that they are flecks of gold. I'm going to wait until I can see more of them and melt them down for a few $$$'s.
I will put the DD on my microscope at 100x and post a pix. I should use the microscope for my AD inspections and why not, I am paying the dollars for Rolex 'quality'.

Inspected a DJ with a loupe yesterday, if I would not have done that I probably would have bought a fake one ... simple as that, everything was scary perfect on the dial except the crown was off centered to the 12 o'clock.

Probably you didn't use the loupe right! It is rocket science to use a loupe, as Nick states! C'mon! Look again! There MUST be a flaw!

Who bought his TT Blue Sub btw?
We still haven't seen that proof that he actually still has it (a pic of it on today's newspaper where you can see the date would be preferred!)

Scratch on the bezel or bracelet is not really a big deal to me, as I am going to put those on myself withing a couple weeks of wearing. But, the Dial. That is a different matter. There is only one way for a scratch, blemish, lint, etc.. to be there and that is through poor QC.

I'm not JJ, but I would do the following (and DID so when I bought my recent Sub Date):
1) Bring your OWN X 10 watch maker's loupe (the kind you can hold with your eyes) 2) Be sure to have GOOD light conditions while inspecting the watch. 3) Be SYSTEMATIC when inspecting the dial. Don't just light a "bit there and then a bit there", but: a) First let the light catch the DIAL from an ANGLE, and then inspect the dial with the loupe for any imperfections. Then: b) inspection the dial directly vertically down to see if there is dust collected on the dial (sometimes there IS!). Then: 4) Inspect EVERY LETTER and LINE in the "Rolex" printing, starting with "Rolex" and ending with "Certified". 5) Inspect every hour marker, one at a time 6) Inspect the hands (for example: Does the red paint on the GMT hand to all the way down to the triangle?). Sometimes you see finger prints (smudge) on the hands, too! 7) Inspect the REST of the watch (case, bracelet and clasp)

Nothing wrong inspecting before you buy. And I dont think using a loupe is that complicated......look thru it and see what you see, only bigger.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... can cooler heads prevail here? I've been here only a few months now and seen how these arguments get completely blown out of proportion. Once you fellas settle down and think it over it's only a place for enthusiests to talk about watches.
Nick, your opinion of us not knowing how to use a loupe as a blanket statement may be true in my point (I had no idea what a loupe was a few years ago). But some people like JJ (and others) that do know how to use one may have been taken aback and thought it may have been snobbish. In JJ's case it may have been a case of Sheep Deprevation... umm... I mean Sleep Deprevation (I'm joking ) There's been a couple of high profile members falling on swords lately making a big production of leaving. This may not be one of the bigger production jobs but it is one none the less. Once you say you're leaving it makes it hard to come back when you think it over and see how foolish the argument was. Nick, if you are going to leave, then leave. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your informative posts. Hate to see it end over such a paultry reason as being able to or not being able to use a Loupe... P.S. For those now knowing how to use a loupe I Yahoo Searched "how to loupe" and found 10+ pages on directions. |

Your way, my way. Pick up the phone, tell my favorite saleslady, who is tre hottie btw, what I am looking for. She knows all the numbers for Panerai and some Rolex too I think. Get a guess on timeframe for arrival or shipping. She overnights the watch to a friend in a neighbor state, I overnight a check. Two days later I get the watch and swear this one I will keep for a long time.

I've had enough of cleaning up your mess everytime you go over the top with your keyboard. Just a little over a week ago I tried talking to you nicely about this in private, but apparently that was a waste of my time, so no more Mr Nice Guy. If you want to start something, don't go throwing your toys out of the pram when you get a taste of your own medicine.

Hi guys,
In conclusion, I can only add that I'm sorry to see Nick leave. I honestly started this thread half in jest (as always) but also with an undertone of help to newbies who are always wondering how they should obtain their very first Rolex. I was mainly trying to help them (of course, in my own silly style)....but I wasn't expecting this thread to escalate to this level. Let's all just carry on with the usual watch banter please. Thanks - JJ

unfortunutely, none of them I just look from the window since 7 years to Oyster Collection and in few minutes I leave and after few minutes again I come back and look again to the beauty of watches in that decoration and throw this dream to my heart that's all, I'm sure that if I enter inside they will not care about me cause I cant buy a TT yet and I dont want SS.
