Icon10 Bye bye Yankees!

So, who do YOU associate with the word 'CHOKE'?

just copied this from the other baseball thread I posted. I guess a new thread needs to be started every 10 minutes by Yankee haters.

this says it all.......
'11 Yankees? The Sox this year were built to win it all. The chatter coming from chowderville was astounding with the wild predictions of winning the East and taking it all the way this year. They had all the bullets in the magazine that were going to 'get er done'. It was a sure thing in New England, just like the Pats, would go undefeated and trounce the Giants in 07.
Sox choked and didnt even get the wild card. Losing a 9 game lead with less than a month ago has never been done! Its historic in the long history of MLB and will be in all the record books.
At least making the Playoffs and taking it to a one run Game V the Yanks fought tooth and nail and didnt roll over a die like Sox did.
It may make you feel better to trash the Yanks but you cant divert attention away from the biggest 'choke' this season by any team.
Mark my words,
The collapse of the '11 Red Sox will be talked about for many decades to come!

nice try, but, choke = 2011 red sox.

for a team that many predicted would be 3rd in the AL east, i very much enjoyed watching this year's yankees compile the best record in the AL. i think they overcame a lot, especially on the pitching side. granderson was a great story, and cano continues to impress. DJ's 3,000th hit day will be a cherished memory. MO is a freak. nova, while never to be an "ace", was a nice story. seeing garcia and colon come back from the dead was fun (even if it wasn't great to have to have relied on them to do so).

yeah, the 5-game ALDS didn't work out, but, it was by no means embarrassing. i felt worse losing after last year's ALCS....

Thats funny, The Jays came in 4th in the Division, way behind the 'old' Yanks. Takes balls to insult and call someone old who knocked you to the ground all year.

Remember the 1969 Chicago Cubs had a 10 game lead and with 20 games to go choked. I believe that's the biggest collapse in MLB history!!!

that year's team had a 8.5 game lead on august 19th. yes, they lost 17 of 25 in mid-september, but, they finished 8 games out of 1st.

not comparable.....

you could make a case for the 1964 phillies as a bigger choke, but, with the red sox's sky-high payroll and characterization as the "best team ever", i think the 2011 red sox will live in infamy for a long, long, long time.

I am a huge Yankee fan but they were terrible last night. They essentially left a million guys on base and no one could hit last night or for this series for that matter which is not acceptable from guys like A-Rod, Teixeira, and Swisher. These guys did not step up when they needed to. Should be interesting to see what happens during the off season. CC will definitely opt out and I am sure the Yankees will sign him for some insane amount of money.

Okay I checked and on August 16, 1969 they had a 9 game lead(I was wrong about a 10 game lead)and then choked so they share the record for the biggest choke in MLB history!!!

I don't hate the Yankees. I hate a certain (growing) contingent of their fans. Stop boasting and show some sportsmanship. It's equally as sweet when the Lakers fail.

+1

And IMHO, they should get rid of Cashman. That snivelling little jock sniffer was born on 3rd base & thinks he hit a triple. Never been a big fan of his.

I've been a die hard Yankee fan ever since I started watching baseball when I was a kid. I am not and never will be a fan of their starting 3rd baseman

I feel the same about the Lakers

As a big Yankees fan, They deserved to lose last night. They were awful. The pitching was overmanaged and there were no bats. My hats off to the Tigers. They showed heart and got it done. Still a big Yankees fan but I want to see them win when they're really trying their hardest, not just coasting through. My wife is happy baseball season is over for me anyway so that all time isn't taken-up watching games!

27 World Series Titles for my beloved Yankees. I was fortunate enough to be in the new Yankee stadium in 2009 for the 6th game when the Yankees won it all. Wow, it's quite a place to visit, it's beautiful..Wasn't just a game, it's like a history lesson and a museum.

Good luck to Detroit, they could use a little happiness down there

This is true.

While some are fortunate enough to witness history and the amazing experience of it all, there are those that brag about a homerun like it's the first one they ever saw. This, while the Yanks have been winning titles.

Sorry have to disagree...Yankees in my opinion out hit the Tigers, out pitched the Tigers, but just didn't out score the Tigers, and ultimately that is what counts...the Tigers didn't win it, the Yankees lost it...they had the Tigers on the ropes with bases loaded and one out twice in game V and came out with only 1 run...they had Velvarde on the ropes in Game 3 and let him slide as well...even though Verlander struck out 11 yankees..he also gave up 4 runs...how many other teams scored 4 runs off Verlander all season...the Yankees lost it by not getting the clutch hit when they needed it and giving up the runs at the wrong time...Yankees lost the series, Tigers didn't necessary out play them in my opinion...
