Samsung Nexus Prime

I had been a loyal apple iPhone guy for the last couple years, but the 4s left me wanting more. I looked at the Bionic and the Galaxy S2 and was ready to go with the galaxy when I discovered that Verizon didn't carry them.
A little more research and I discovered this super-whiz-bang Nexus model which is due to be revealed tomorrow night (10am on the 18th in Hong Kong).
I'm oddly excited about a cell phone.
Anyone else waiting for the big reveal? I heard it's coming to Verizon, and the hope is for a November delivery. I think that they have to get it on the shelves ASAP as they're losing market share every day to Apple and Motorola, not to mention themselves with the galaxy, which apparently is a global success. Of course they're offering the new Android software. Who knows how much it really offers in practical use for the average punter.
Any thoughts from the tech crowd?

Do you the bionic? I looked at that, but the new Nexus rumors seem impressive. All will be revealed in a few hours. If it's more than the Bionic ($299) I'm passing though.

Wow!
I just saw the live stream from Hong Kong.
The "Galaxy Nexus" is totally uncredible, and the android 4.0 looks insane. Super slick!
Best news. Coming to verizon for real 4G LTE in November (10th?).
Where do I send the money? I'll prepay now thanks!
I'd be sad if I upgraded to the 4S. The reveal was just feature after feature of awesomeness! (of course if I had upgraded, I would be blissfully unaware)
Best LOL moment, The android guy couldn't get the face recognition to unlock the phone. HA! However he was moving around at the time. "I must have on more make up than I thought."
Check it out. It looks amazing and makes my iPhone look kind of sad.
Seriously, can I pre order now?

Yes there were some pretty cool things in the announcement.
Beyond the 'special' features, the basics of really BIG and BRIGHT screen is giant plus.

He should just carry a photo of himself. That's how everyone else will unlock his phone, right?

But seriously, there must be more to it that that. Perhaps the phone is capable of depth perception, in which case a simple photo would not suffice?

Dr Brian, let us know how that Nexus works for you when you get it.
By the way, Iphone is now available on the Sprint network, maybe I'll get to try it afterall.

Anyone have hands-on experience? I'm finding this difficult to believe:

"The subtle, pervasive lag that has characterized the Android UI since its inception is still there, which is not a heartening thing to hear when you’re talking about a super-powered dual-core device like the Galaxy Nexus."

Is the reviewer just hyper-sensitive?

Razr and Galaxy Nexus are both looking really strong. I predict a lot of sad iphone 4s users in a few weeks.

Probably an Apple fanboy.

You know the type, right?

Oh yeah. Odd that even the favorable reviews mention it. Might be a pre-release thing.

So it's not something observable in the real world?

Slight hijack, Ballmer says Windows Phone is better because users don't want a "sea of icons" (Apple) or "computer science" (Android). http://money.cnn.com/2011/10/18/tech..._ballmer_web2/

Can we at least agree that he's the most-deluded individual in any room he enters?

They won't be sad because they won't know what they're missing, and they don't (know that they) want the customization that android offers. I didn't, until I really saw what it can do. Interestingly, most of my colleagues upgrade every year with apple, and none have the 4S yet. So, like me, they may be opening their minds to other systems. It is interesting that Siri was a big selling point for the 4s. I think it's a flashy feature that few people will really use. I really don't see myself using it. I can talk to text on my wife's Droid phone, but I have to push a couple buttons. It works well for me when I use it. I guess Siri takes it to the next level.
All of the phones have their positives and negatives, but the 4.6 inch screen with the AMOLED technology is stunning. My 3.5 inch iPhone screen is feeling quite impotent, I mean inadequate, I mean coming up short.

Agreed.

In fact, I will pre-agree to any future derogatory Ballmer comments.

I've had the Droid Charge since it's release and I'm already setting aside funds to pickup the Nexus. That thing looks incredible!

OK, my last Ballmer hijack, but you can't miss this:

http://www.infoworld.com/t/cringely/...ily_2011-10-19
Ballmer had this to say about Bing, which recently passed Yahoo in search market share but is still being lapped several times by Google:
Today I issue you all kind of a challenge. Take any search you want, try it out on Bing and try it out on Google.... 70 percent of the time you probably won't care, 15 percent of the time you'll like us better, and 15 percent of the time you'll like the other guy better....
I can just see the marketing slogan now: "Most of the time you don't give a damn. For the rest of the time, there's Bing."
Could not write this as fiction.

"85% of the time, the other guy's as good or better."
That's a winner. I know it makes me want to change search engines. How much does this jackhole make? I should have gone into business.

Trust me, few in business get away with Ballmerism at a high rate of pay. He's an edge case.

It looks like it's coming to all the big carriers. Time will tell.

Verizon confirmed that they are getting it, but no release date yet.
