Totally gutted over this, Simoncelli was a real character showing great promise and definitely looked the goods to be an open class champion one day. I also feel sad for Edwards and Rossi, there's nothing they could have done to avoid hitting him and one can only imagine how they must feel. A very sad situation all around...

I totally agree. He was a breath of fresh air, ruffled a few feathers with his riding style but total entertainment.

Devastating event. Loved to watch the lanky Italian mix it up while pushing to the absolute limit.

RIP young brother, RIP.

A truly sad freak accident.
Marco was a really great MotoGP personality, a young rising star, cut short in such circumstances is incredibly tragic.

RIP Super Simmo

RIP Marco. I hope Edwards is doing ok after that collision. Was Marco out cold before Edwards collided with him? Side note, apparently he liked at least one Rolex

What an awful accident and 2nd tragic motorsport death in only a week !

Sad lost and my thoughts are with his friends and family.

I also hope Edwards and Rossi can recover from this.

RIP Marco Simoncelli,

I just saw the clip on youtube, how awful to see his helmet come off like that. Edwards and Rossi must feel terrible. Another freak accident... definitely a bad week for motorsport.

Tragic loss of a rising MotoGP star. Nothing Edwards and Rossi could have done in that situation beyond what they did. Terrible for all involved...sad day for MotoGP. RIP Marco Simoncelli.

Another huge loss in motorsports. How did Valentino Rossi keep the Ducati upright after the hit? Amazing driving.

Wife and I were both taken aback when we heard the news. Very sad day for the entire motorcycling community.
I raced (club level) for 5 years and we lost 2 people in that time to racing accidents. It's dangerous business, even under the most ideal (closed course) conditions.
I trust that Collin & Vale won't blame themselves...not a damn thing they could do.
Rest in peace Marco, you will be missed.

Tragic indeed! I read an interesting article about him in a British motorcycle magazine (name unrecalled) this past weekend, at Barnes & Noble! Check it out...

He ruffled a lot of feathers. Great talent who risked it all...

What a shame...

RIP.
