hmmm, their stock has risen by 5% today at about $1.62 with buying orders outnumber selling by 2:1. Are they getting raided?

why? i think its great. Standing up to these unions, who are ruining peoples holidays, travel plans over a period of months? Sending death threats etc. It is funny how many union leaders will be getting paid more than Joyce isn't it? fraudsters

Think you're misunderstanding my point, I don't agree with the unions in the slightest, but who the hell is going to fly with them now.

I think at the end of this saga, they are going to roll Jetstar into Qantas, i.e. a lot of existing QF routes will be cancelled because they can't compete and the remaining Qantas routes will go Jetstar and everything will be charged, e.g. meals, luggage, seats etc etc.
They will say that even with a deal with the unions they still can't compete and the only way is to expand Jetstar into Qantas routes as Jetstar is cheaper to operate.

Domestically there is no other carrier that can replace Qantas. Int'l wise, Virgin and Etihad are rubbing their hands in anticipation.

Either way, I don't see how Joyce can stay on in the long term - after this saga, there will be strong recriminations from the govn't and I don't believe even the board can continue. Let another pair of hands to run it I say.

I also think you are misunderstanding my point, this will be the end of it. The unions, the way they were going would have done far more damage to Qantas over the next months and people would have lost more and more faith.
This is a tactically sound manoeuvre that will work out the least damaging for Qantas. It has taken an Irishman to stand up for an Australian Institution being killed by the unions.

No, it won't be the end of it, the clients they've alienated, that personally hold Joyce responsible for destroying their plans are not going to suddenly come back just because he played chicken and got lucky.

Once agaan I diasgree wholeheartedly. Many other CEO's will say i wish i had the B#lls to do what you did. Good on you. Joyce is not stupid, he did not get lucky, he knew he would win against these tyrants, otherwise he wouldn't have done it. Once again its the clients and the average workers who come off worst of which the unions represent the interests of neither.

At least Gillard doesn't speak with an accent and she was raised in Australia since 4 yo. Can't say the same for Joyce.

Can't but agree!

Qantas is a national disgrace itself... older planes compared to the competition, lousy service, lousy baggage allowance, lousy everything pretty much, and yet they charge like a wounded bull.

its little wonder that ive only flown QF once, and never again.

The unions brought this on themselves with their disruptions. The problem with qantas *imo* is, they desperately want to compete with the international carriers, yet are being crippled internally by their own employees who only care about themselves.

this is systematic amongst many australian firms as such when they go offshore (and they eventually will *imo*), australians then complain about having "a fair go" nonsense.

Flew back to melb today from Sydney... when we were landing there was a loud beebing noise from the cabin... everyone was worried that engine maybe in trouble with that alarm sound... the old lady sat next to me was a bit concerned ... I said to her may be an alarm clock was on in one of the bag (we were sitting on front row)..... she said may be aircraft needed maintenance after the strike.... everyone was worried even more.....

after we landed.... she took her bag from the cabin and it was her alarm clock that she left in her bag

she was told off not to do it next time by cabin crew

Joyce is a mess. Playing hardball with people's well being knowing that he can walk away with millions and not worry about making the next mortgage payment...just another power hungry CEO lacking in morals.
