I just want to thank everyone who works tirelessly to keep this forum up and running. I also want to give a big thanks to all the fine members who make this giveaways possible. They are fun and unique and I am always happy to help out and I know JJ would have loved to see a Platty given out in his honor. Once again thanks for all the hard work that is done behind the scenes! You guys make this an incredible place.

It saddens me deeply to read the posts made above by other than "my friends".....JJ was my friend as he was a friend to so many......I am man enough to admit I shed tears when he passed away......I cannot express my gratitude to the moderators and contributors sufficiently in words......more for just the forum than the give aways, they are just a "nice to have".....very, very sad

Disgraceful to JJ?

This was the best giveaway yet to be sported! I'm damn sure JJ is smiling while looking down on us from the Rolex heavens.

Rolex Junky you stated and I quote word for word (I fugure there is no pont in becoming a plegde member for 2011 so close to the end of the year).Take some advice from the members and the mods, think very carefully and do a bit of forum research before you post on such subjects again, as your membership could come to a abrupt end.

I think most members understand there is no profit being made on this. With a large community however not everyone may get it, and in this case so far only one has questioned the motives. As stated by Mark earlier Steve even opened a thread to discuss this prior to it going public. It appears as the OP may have missed this, but I hope he now understands things a little better.

I still believe it is a good idea as I hope most do. JJ was a great guy and I see nothing wrong with doing something like this in his honor, a Yacht Master Giveaway. Giveaways it appears have kind of been a tradition around here for awhile, and they always seem to generate a bit of good fun.

Unfortunatey some of these giveaways have become a bit contentious. But you know what, it seems that's because of only one or two people out of the multitudes have some kind of problem. There will always be one or two with a worldwide forum with a membership this large. Let's not let that take away from everyone else's fun.

So to everyone who are making this happen, once again thank you. I know this requires time, money and effort on your end.

Once again this is a Great Forum, thanks for your continued hard work to make it that way.

$28 bucks dude, it just wasn't worth it to you. So disgraceful you would create negativity over something that obviously ment so much to many on the forum and good holiday cheer for many that are somber over the passing. I just don't get it, what's even worse is knowing you would have jumped to get yours if it just wasn't for that 28 bucks. Shameful

If the OP wants to personally contribute to a cancer charity in memory of JJ that would be a great thing and I would encourage him to do so and also to post an apology for his unwarranted suggestion of unethical behaviour.

Everyone can make a mistake... the key is to recognize it, apologize and move on.

This is a marvelous forum which has created a community of watch lovers from all over the world without major sponsorships. The enjoyment that I personally get from this group is certainly worth the small, voluntary, and occassional contributions that are asked for. The fact that there are giveaways makes this forum even more special. The proof of this is the love JJ had for this forum and the love in return so many of us had for him.

I've heard of freedom of speech but this Junky guy is a pathetic disgrace.

Bravo to the forum admin/mods for not letting a dirt bag ruin something meant to be done in honor of JJ and other members to enjoy.

It begs belief someone could be so twisted, maybe another reason behind the op's claims.

It was the consensus of the people who contributed to that discussion that a YM "platty" would be most appropriate and would be a good sybolic gesture to honour and remember JJ. It is since then that the JJ conection has gathered momentum and, IMO, a nice touch that other JJ related prizes have been offered (the Nike shirts for eg).

I also feel Steve has made this givaway more inclusive than ever by making it so that one may only enter once, therefore allowing more people to participate.
I gotta kick out of seeing JJ's RayBan "shooters" as one of the prizes, whomever thought of that one is gettin beers and Macallen 64 shots on the House

To the OP, feel free to "self ban" yourself at this point

I am well aware that this forum does not run on hot air and am extremely greatfull for all the effort the moderating team puts into running this gem of a forum. I enjoy the wealth of information this forum has to offer and feel priviliged to be able to associate myself with such a fine and upstanding community. God knows I have spent many hours lurking around here and the forum is long due compensation from my part. Not because I am obligated to but because they well deserve it. I feel any amount I may contribute will be well below that which the fine moderating team dereves.

Perhaps it was better if I had brought my grief to the attention of the moderating team via PM. It is not my intention to insult anyone on this forum; and let me state once again that I am greatfull for all the efforts by the moderating team. I understand that giveaways besides creating extra well deserved and needed revenue to keep things up and running are a great way to renew intrest in the forum and get members to more actively participate.

Although I never got to interact with JJ on a personal level I am well aware of JJ's contributions and what he ment to TRF. I mean no disrespect to JJ and I understand that the community here wants to honor him and keep his memory alive. The givaway is an option to honor and remember him by; but I hope you understand that by choosing to do so the action is open to scruteny and interpretation.

Where I come from; remembering or honoring a deseased person in a way that creates revenue without directly contributing to a cheritable cause is not done. The impression of personal gain must be avoided at all cost for it is viewed as unethical and unaccepted by the community as a whole.

To avoid such impression it would perhaps have been better to increase the donation amount but donate part of it to some meaningfull cause besides puting a "platty" on some members wrist. I know JJ loved the "platty." I also recall that near the end he sold all his beloved Rolexes so he could procure for his family once he was gone.

Is only the opinion of those whom have actively contributed to the forum tolerated on TRF? Lol-X you are correct to point out that I so far have not actively contributed to this forum. When I choose to do so is at my own discretion. Perhaps a better way to procure a constant stream of donations would be to allow membership for the duration of 1 year regardless of when one donates. With the current system people will remain less inclined to donate near the end of the year since all privileges are lost in february of the next year.

Well, I'll avoid the JJ stuff as it's just too ridiculous and upsetting; however, I don't really consider the extra PM allowance as a privilege that I really care about-->It's being on the forum and interacting with the many friends I have met and the wealth of knowledge I have learned for free. I'd gladly donate anytime and receive nothing special in return just to keep the forum running (particularly advertising free).

Lol-X...you need any more to keep this great forum running? PM me a Paypal button and I'll get it right out to you.

you are aware that Rolex as a company is a charitable trust - therefore by purchasing any Rolex watch from Rolex for this (or any other) give away(s) is pretty much a direct contribution to a charitable cause..... IMO

Rolex Junky. Well done. You have successfully ostracized yourself by publicly making statements that questioned the integrity of the owner of this forum.

For what reason? Seriously? What did you expect? The giveaway is a symbolic gesture of recognition for JJ. It's as all giveaways have been but with a an added theme and connection. This hasn't made it any more popular and it wasn't intended to. Rather it was a thoughtful and considered way of keeping the memory of JJ alive through a now pretty routine giveaway event.

You later ramble on with some vague, meaningless apology.

This is such a profoundly ill considered thread.

Whatever may be the decision we make your relationship with this community has come to a rapid and abrupt end through your own doing. Irrecoverable.

I just wanted to say that your opinion and your value as an honourable human being is worth to all of us right now due to your posts.

Firstly you insult everyone who donated and then call us basically idiots because our donation would only last a month as a new membership year will be upon us and therefore we will not get our monies worth. Let me tell you this, we donate because we care about this forum. Lots of us have met honourable, generous and respectable human beings through TRF that have become strong friendships that will last a lifetime spanning all over the world.

We donate because we want to keep this forum running and the fact that we only get a few months on this membership, just want to say who the f**k cares and noone asked you to to tell us what we can or can not do.

I'm at a loss for words. Please don't lock this thread, delete it entirely.

It is an insult to Steve O, the mods and the membership as well as JJ. There should be no more negatively regarding this as it is taking away from its true purpose, to honor JJ and to continue to celebrate and foster comraderie with Rolex and watch lovers around the world.

Now, drinks in JJ's Bar, they're on me. Just put them on Steelinox tab.
