A Freaky Event

I had my arm out the car window giving someone directions. As I brought my arm back into the car my watch hit the partially opened window.

Somehow the bezel came off the watch. I found it under the car. I had never had the bezel off before so am confused.

I snapped it back onto the watch, but now it turns very freely; almost spins. Before it had been snug to turn.

What to do?

You probably lost the little bezel spring that allows the bezel to turn in only one direction and provides the "clicks."

It is a simple fix, your AD should be able to re-insert the missing part (I do not know the name, it is the one that makes it 'tick' and stop).

Bezel spring, if memry serves me correct it looks kind of like the top of a bullet and it should be around or about the 7/8 minute marker uunder the bezel. Is that correct guys?

I just returned from the scene of the crime. I found a metal O ring.

I thought of taking the bezel back off, but am afraid to.
Looks as if the O ring would fit under the bezel.

Bezel consist of 4 parts:

Metal Bezel
Bezel Insert
Inner washer
Bezel spring ( a small spring about 10mm in length)

If you bezel popped off, I am about 100% sure the spring popped off. It is a really easy fix, once you have the Spring. Take to your nearest AD.

As said, it is an easy fix, but better let your AD do it for you.

Lots of bezel mishaps lately. So am I to surmise that my beloved SD is not indestructible? Say it ain't so.

You should consider buying the German "Sinn U1" for example!

It has an "Unverlierbarer Taucherdrehring" (un-losable diver's bezel).

as a second, non-Rolex watch.

I haven't seen any SD bezel problems posted yet so I choose to believe it is still indestructible. I do like some of the Sinn watches. No missing those hands in a low viz situation. Thanks for the link.
