Anyone have a Jeep?

I'm thinking about getting the Grand Cherokee Overland Summit. Thoughts?

Drove a 2012 Grand Cherokee for a day while my new Wrangler was getting delivered, and liked it quite a bit. Was actually really surprised - the drive was smooth yet firm, acceleration was plenty sufficient for an SUV, interior was very nicely made, and it was plenty luxurious. And the price-tag was beyond reasonable, to boot.

Wife had a Jeep Commander for about 2 months. Biggest POS I ever owned.
Hopefully the Grand Cherokee will be better for you.

We've had four maybe five Jeep Cherokees over the last 18 years.

'nuff said.

I just got this exact model about a month and a half ago. I had a 95 Grand Cherokee, and I'm VERY impressed with this one.

It's got every feature imaginable, I have the V6 2WD, and there is plenty of power. In mixed freeway/street driving, I'm getting about 19mpg.

I think the fit and finish is incredible, especially for an American car. My last SUV was an Infiniti FX35 that I traded in on the Jeep.

I also looked at the Infiniti ($54K), and Lexus RX ($50K). The Jeep was a great deal, I ended up paying $500 over invoice, and then there was a Chrysler incentive of $1000 off (or free financing). I ended up out the door for $43K all inclusive.

After 6 weeks and over 2,000 miles, I have zero regrets. I've had it on one road trip (LA to Vegas) and it drove great, even over the mountains it had plenty of power.

Everyone I've shown it to is very impressed that it's a Jeep.

Jeep has improved with the latest lineup. I have a Sahara Wrangler 2dr 4wd with a manual tranny. I bought the jeep because it was a tough little billy goat of a vehicle.

I have also driven the SRT8 Cherokee at an SRT owner's experience and they are hot for an SUV. I had the best 1/4 mile time out of my group.

My husband also sells Chrysler, Jeep & Dodge and if I was in the market for an SUV I would be in a Cherokee in a heart beat. I custom ordered the Wrangler in 2009, because I just wanted a Jeep. I love mine and no problems.

Let me know if you have any questions for the hubby about the Cherokee.

Are you saying they don't last past five years?

Had a 2017 GC and should have kept it. It was flawless. Traded that for a new F150 that was a complete POS. The 10 speed transmission was junk. So, traded that on a new trail boss and it’s got the 10 speed, but it’s much better than the Ford version. I do not like the DFM though. I need to get a gadget to turn it off.
I have a feeling that in the end I may end up making a giant circle back to a Grand Cherokee.

I love Jeep GCs. Owned 2. Great vehicles. Still own a 2008 with a lifetime max care Chrysler warranty. Will never get rid of it. Had a 2015 too...loved it. New ones are nice.

Had a Grand Cherokee here in the UK in ‘07. It was fantastic!! If they made a 7 seater here I’d still have one!

Agree. Had a 1987 Wrangler and now have a 2005 Wrangler.

Never had a Grand Cherokee though. Love our Lincoln MKX, new ones called Nautilus.

I’ve had a few over the years and have a friend who always re-leases the newest ones. My and his feedback is there’s better, and their dealer experience sucks. But everyone looks good in a Jeep.

If you really do want one review the dealers in your area and mystery shop their Service dept, which is very important and often an afterthought.

I had a 2021 Jeep Wrangler for 6 months. Sold it for sticker price so basically drove it for free. It was fun but the novelty wore off kind of quickly.

Just spoke to the OP, he’s been in therapy and financial ruin since buying the Jeep.

(We should lock this lest he sees it and relapses)

Since I made the comments above back in 2011 about the oft forgotten Commander, have owned 4 Wranglers. Have had good luck with them and enjoyed each one.

I bought this Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit back in 2018 for my girlfriend. It’s very good every day car and good value for money.

owned and now operated by Stellantis.

IMO, run hard, run fast, and run long.
