Part of buying your first Rolex is the memorable experience. If you are buying the watch on Craigslist because you do not want to break the bank, my 2 cents is no. Too many variables what could go wrong and too much effort to authenticate whether it is real or worse whether it is stolen. Like many said on TRF before, buy from trusted sellers and you will have a memorable experience.

I would just be careful and use common sense. I myself would not buy from a person listing on CL but if you want it and everything checks out.....

I've bought off CL as long as you can verify the watch is legit and you feel comfortable with the seller why not? Have the seller write you out a quick bill of sale also!

I've successfully bought and sold via CL. On the buy side, its simply a matter of performing due diligence to know whom you are dealing with. Two weeks ago I purchased an M series 16610 with all boxes/paperwork for $4k on CL that had been originally sold from a local AD in my area....the seller had received it as a bonus from work and wasn't an avid watch wearer. I checked his credentials, email, business cards, etc and yes he works for a large national company that made his story credible. In my mind it was a great deal I was unlikely to find elsewhere.

As to the particular watch you are looking at, price seems too high. I just sold a 9.8M serial 16030 that was mint and RSC serviced on CL for $2k.

I bought a Rolex from craigslist. Met him at the mall near an AD. I knew the watch like the back of my hand before I bought it.

Meet in a public place. Do the deal. And walk off. It's really that easy. Hell.... Bring a friend if you are seriously uncomfortable about it.

Good deals can be had on craigslist. I prefer face to face any day than paying ridiculous paypal fees and shipping AND I get to see it and verify in person.
I agree I've done many deals as buyer and seller on CL for watches and have never had a problem. My spot to meet is Starbucks in nice areas. Probably not going to be a robbery over a Latte

I only consider watches with papers and I tell them in advance I need to take off the bracelet, if the numbers match I'm good to go. I also use this time to evaluate the seller while I check all the functions of the watch.

But, for my very 1st purchase I wouldn't do it alone or on CL, IMO

The price seems fair but I don't know what you should do! Just be careful and cover all of your bases.

Watch is overpriced, but there's nothing wrong with Craigslist. It just takes common sense. I sold a Rolex and a Breitling on Craigslist. I've also purchased well over $10k in bullion, thousands at a time, on Craigslist. If the price is right, go for it. Just use common sense.

Just be very careful, perhaps have a friend watch from a distance. Recently here in San Diego, a kid whom worked at In-N-Out Burger was shot & killed when he met up w/ a Craig's list seller to purchase a Mac-Book for $900.00. Turned out to be 3 gang members whom had recently robbed 3 other people on same scam. This guy and his 17 yr old girlfriend tried to chase after them in their car, & the shot & killed him.

I've sold and bought on CL, no issues, just use common sense.

Have the seller meet you at the AD in Des Plaines (10 minutes from Glenview). Ask for Brooks he's very helpful. He will check out the watch for you and ask him to look it up on the Rolex database to make sure it's not reported stolen.

You can even draft a bill of sale with the seller's name and address as it appears on his Driver's License.

If you want someone to go with you, my work is a few minutes from the AD, email me at bpalmero at yahoo dot com.

Correct answer: yes I would!

The watch appears genuine, and many, many genuine watches are offered for sale on Craigslist. Besides what everyone else noted in other posts here about your safety and security during the purchase, and the seller acknowledging that he would meet you at a dealer to have the watch authenticated, I see minimal to no risk.

As far as the price, I would need more information to determine its value, but it appears to be a mid-nineties DateJust and does not seem over-priced - but less is always better.

I never have bought anything from CL, however I would if the opportunity strikes.
Using the common sense many have suggested seems to be the best policy.
