Rolex 16800 ??? Value ???
Is it me or is the 16800 submariner cheaper to buy than the other submariners ?
If so why is this? and there seems to be fewer about than the normal subs example the 16600. is the 16800 a lesser quality watch ? |

Well, the 16600 is a Sea Dweller and commands a premium amongst collectors and users alike. I'm guessing you meant 16610. Yes, the 16800, particularly the gloss dial version is generally a bit cheaper as it's not yet become majorly popular amongst collectors for some bizarre reason. Get 'em whilst you can because some day soon they'll catch on and the prices will then rocket, I expect.

The 16800 took the place of the plastic crystal 1680, and introduced sapphire and the 120 "click" bezel to the Sub. It also ushered in the modern 3035 movement.. Early releases used the 1680 painted plot, matte black dials and are quite pricey.. later they changed to the modern gold surround plot, gloss black dials.. The follow-on 16610 is simply a 16800 with 904L Steel and a 3135 movement. Most people couldn't tell the difference.. If you can find one cheap, you shouldn't pass it up..

There should be a 168000 between the 16800 and the 16610...
