New Nikon D800 and D800E with a massive 36megapixel!!! After watching the reviews this is one hell of a DSLR!!! $3000 and $3200!!! Any thoughts???!!

Old joke to Oscar... Sometime ago we were all teasing him about not including the silly bezel protectors on preowned watches after there was a thread about it... Sorry I thought it was funny but I guess you had to be a part of the old thread

Looks like an amazing camera Oscar, wish I didnt spend all my oney flipping my darn watches, I could consider buying one

Now that's a hell of a camera! Too bad the price is a bit (a lot) out of my budget limits! I think I'll stick with my current Coolpix L120!

Haven't the theoretical resolution the lenses are capable of been surpassed long ago?

Dynamics would be more important than MPixels...

Im pretty much sure there is more to it than megapixels for $3k...man there should more to it...

...ive seen some photos and man they are almost as close quality to a Leica M9...

My shooting style is more for the D4 (higher ISO, fast), but the D800E wouldn't be too bad.

That is too many mega pixels for my taste. Will need to spend money on more hard drives to store those huge files.

But, it will ensure no more Rolex's for a very long time. We can't have that!!!!

I am happy with my D7000. I will wait till the hype dies down. The only thing that might be intriguing would be a newer FX for a fair price, especially something that you could crop the hell out of without pixelating too much.

Its perfect for studio use but unfortunately, they aren't getting any D700 replacement customers on this one but maybe a few D7000 users

I tend to agree.......I wouldn't flip my D700 for a D800......I would rather invest that $$ into a 200-400 VR lens! I went from a D70 to a D700 and skipped all the others.......so maybe after the next few I might upgrade, again. The D700 and D300s bodies we have are perfect for our current and foreseeable needs........but it does seem to be quite the camera!!

Stepping into the FX world is a tad on the expensive side, especially for someone who's got in the vicinity of $4000 tied up in DX cameras and glass, already.

The D800 with a good starter lens like the Nikkor 28-300mm VR would put you in the ballpark of about $4300, plus tax, when they become available and prices drop to MSRP.

I just called a local camera store about a Nikkor 105mm Micro lens and the sales clerk wanted sell me a $984 MSRP lens for $1100, plus tax.

Nikon USA is selling them for MSRP, plus $10 shipping, so I said no thanks.

You can imagine what will happen when the D800 hits the shelves.

I've been trying to justify a 12-24 f2.8 but always back out at the last minute. I currently use a 24-120 f4 as my walk around lens. I'm just waiting for my next trip to force me to just do it.

Understand completely, Renato.....I almost bought the 14-24 last year, just because it is so cool, but thankfully came to my senses!! Have been thinking about the 28-300 VR for a walk around lens for the D700 (that may actually be a reasonably good use of my money)......currently use the 18-200 VR as such on the D300s. I have been wanting to get into more long rang telephotos, lately, and have successfully resisted the 300 2.8 VRII, as well as the 200-400, and now may allow myself to compromise with the Sigma 50-500 (which is probably much better than "i" am, anyways). On ongoing battle, so it seems!!

An expensive game, as is watches, unfortunately.......and I have to contend with my crazy obsession with police memorabilia, as well.....
