Sad and possibly even tragic but not surprising given the lifestyle.

I will never forget her performing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl 10 days after the US went to war in the Gulf in 1991. I was at a large party, and literally every single person in the house became still as she sang. At the end, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Her version has never been, and may never be topped, in my humble opinion. RIP. Your struggles are over.

I saw her in the early 90s. Incredible back then.

She didn't start going off the deep end until after getting married to Bobby. I hope that someone in the media will have the guts to say this to him during the inevitable interviews with him.

Its extremely sad, she was indeed a great singer and had so much talent left unused because of her bad decisions in her personal life. It seems to happen over and over again in the music industry.
Its very sad :-((

I'm 53 -- her passing at 48 makes it seem even more tragic than it is. I'm listening to her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at this very moment.

It was a time in US history when everyone was feeling very patriotic and with her singing ability and the emotion of the song, it was a performance I will always remember.

I was living in Menlo Park at the time, so I was in your neighborhood.

The information so far is that she died in her bathtub at the Beverly Hilton. Rumor is possibly drowned, but that doesn't happen without some underlying factor (heart attach, drugs, alcohol, etc.). They found prescription drugs in the room but no illegal drugs, but that doesn't mean the prescrpitions played some part in it.

It will take between 2-6 weeks for the toxicology results to be made public and that will determine how she died and any contributing factors. With her history of prescription drug and crack cocaine usage it could simply be that the abuse took its toll on her body. Very sad.

I am always amazed at the successful people that put everything on the line for drugs...

Her songs will live on for a very long time.

That performance was in one word - POWERFUL!

What a shame. Not really my type of music but she had a wonderful voice and was such a pretty girl.

RIP

Horrible news. While the cause of death has yet to be determined, what we've heard so far is just terrible. Prayers go out to her daughter and family.
