Submariner 14060 no date COSC
Hi,
Wondering if anyone can help me with a question. I bought a brand new Rolex Submariner 14060 no date about a year ago. I'm only now getting around to adding it to my insurance policy and went digging for the serial number. The serial number (84L7....) tells me that the watch is from 1984! Can that be right? Can a watch have lasted 27 years without being sold? Or am I misunderstanding the serial number? Or have I been sold a 2nd hand? Thanks |

I think you may be confusing another number for the serial. It should star with a letter, then have the number after. Example: L2489131.
An "L" serial would be from 1989 anyway.

A couple of years ago they went to random numbers and letters so that may explain your situation!!!

Could be that you have a random serial number. I just got a 14060M and it has three numerals then a D and more numerals in it's serial number. Mine's so new I can still smell Switzerland on it.

My guess is that you have a random serial #. The date and serial # should be on the original warranty card.

Thanks for your replies. Lion - I think you nailed it. I didn't realize they had moved to totally random serial numbers - explained in the following link (http://www.qualitytyme.net/pages/numbers.html)
It certainly didn't look like a 27 year old watch so that's put my mind at ease! |

If your serial number is has 8 digits and consist of numbers and letters, then you have the latest model. Rolex went with a randomize serial number in recent year sometimes around 2011.

Yes, it is the new "random" serial number, which makes your non-date Sub one of the very last produced. As you may know, Rolex discontinued the non-date Sub around the time they introduced the new "random" serial numbering system. Therefore, you have one of the very last made-- or at least the last series. Pretty cool.

The 14060M is not officially discontinued. Why IQ Publishing would assert that it is with such apparent authority I am not sure.

it is not discontinued as evidenced by its prominent advertisement in rolex catalog both in paper and on the web.
