help I.D. oyster perpetual just date

hi, we have found a rolex oyster pepetual just-date. we are wondering how old it is ? it is marked between the lugs with brevet and the swiss symbol on one and the other is a 5 digit serial # 408**. dial has oyster-perpetual date just, 50m=165ft officially certified chonometer on it. i'm not sure of case material, possibly ss. the watch does not run at this time and does not have an original band.. any idea its value as parts ? would it be worth more restoring and sellings instead ? thanks for any input recieved ! yoop

WR 50m??

5 digit serial numbers ended in 1940. Are you looking at the number between the lugs? The bracelet must be removed.

Doesn't sound like any Datejust that I can recall.. The DJ model first appeared in 1945, so could have some "brevet" markings, which simply means "patented"

Some photos could clear things up..

Sounds like a very early Datejust, I think some 6305s had the depth rating on them:

hi, thanks for the replies ! yes MR BILL the 408** is between the lugs. it looks very similiar to the one in pic above from kyle but our face seems darker, the datejust and depth are red also. the dates i think are black odd days and red even days and i recall no swiss at bottom but doesnt mean its not there. i know pics are needed to get acurate feedback. i will be able to post pics on monday or tuesday as i dont have watch with me. i was told also that the back would need to be removed to get a better idea as it may have other parts put in the case. my brief research based on the lug # put case at 1937. it to me doesnt look that old but i have zero exp. with any watch so i probably am wrong and wanted to get opinions from those in the know. thanks guys and will get pics posted asap ! yoop

The first Datejust came out in 1945, so unless it's a prototype or something it can't be from '37. Looking forward to pictures, the darker face could just be due to aging.
