Perfect Storm

After 27 years wearing my SS DJ, I innocently wandered into the only Rolex AD here in Alaska on Valentine's Day to purchase some trinkets for my wife and two daughters. Checked out the watches while I was there and, lo' and behold, the Subs looked really nice. Tried on a 116610LN and it looked pretty good. IT got me thinking about Started surfing the net and found TRF almost immediately, joined on Feb 20, and began reading everything. Saw the 10460M COSC and it sang to me (AD here has no 14060M in house). Read some more and saw lots of pics, and as a result the AD will have a 10460M her in Anchorage on Wednesday, March 7, for a direct comparison. At present I am leaning towards the No Date but the AD is really pushing the Sub C improvements as a big selling point - esp bracelet and bezel. I can live with those, but the case is another matter; not a deal breaker but it is a modification that The new Sub simply looks more blocky and chunky to me, but I certainly could live with it very easily once it is on the wrist and away from the store. We shall see... but with one further complication. It's March 7 in Basel very soon and we will all finally know what, if any, changes there will be to the Submariners in 2012 (I am betting on no change). The timing could not have been more perfect for me in decisioning this watch so soon after beginning the process. It will be either the Sub ND, Sub C, or perhaps whatever newly modified Sub might be offered this year. A ceramic ND with an updated bracelet would certainly be worth consideration, but I think these mods would also involve the new case and would make the choice that much more interesting. Regardless, tomorrow is the day. This has been a nice ride and I have enjoyed every minute I've spent learning about these watches on TRF. It is nice to be here.

Good luck! Just keep in mind that Basel releases aren't usually available until the fall.

Welcome to the forum! And ANY sub is a great watch to have! I just bought the 116610LN and I love it. I thought I wouldn't like the "bulkiness" to it either but really, pictures make it look so much larger than it actually is in person.

Good luck hunting and let us know how it all turns out!!

Good luck. I seriously doubt there will be any changes of the Sub C in the next 5-10 years. I think they might update the ND Sub soon. It is one of if not the most outdated watch in the line up. They are both great watches but watches with no dates are deal breakers for me.

Welcome to the TRF. Its a good idea to wait for Basel and see what they reveal. If they dont reveal an updated ND sub, I would personally recommend going for the Sub-C, just as the AD mentioned, its got many more advantages, glidelock, ceramic bezel, case, and of course, a date.

However, many people will say to go for the ND, but my vote is definitely for the Sub-C.

I vote SubC too! I thought it was too big at first sight, but it grew quickly on me.

Welcome to TRF. I own a Submariner 14060M non-COSC. LOVE IT!!! Great watch that keeps +2 sec/day while never leaving my wrist. I too share your sentiments regarding the looks of the new SubC when compared to the older Subs. That said, the SubC is a wonderful watch and needs to be compared side-by-side to the 14060M.

Good luck in your journey towards a new Submariner.

Any steel sub is great.

If they change the non date 14060 tomorrow, then i think i may get the current one. Destined be a last of the classic!

All the very best

Now what? I guess I'm heading out to the AD later this morning to check out the 14060M in person and decide between it and the new 114060. I'm thinking go old school. The Sub C ND does look nice though.

great stuff, welcome!

everything you said makes sense, except the bit about "innocently wandering into your AD"....we know better than that!
