Do all AD's have guards with guns?

I wouldn't doubt it if they had some private contractors wearing suits like common lookers with an SOF resume.

My AD has a two part security door that you need to be rang-in with and it's in a good part of town, too.

If I worked at a dealership outside of a shopping centre/mall, armed guards would be a great comfort (although that would never happen here in the UK). Luckily, the shop where I work is right at the heart of a big shopping centre - although we have to be vigilant for snatch 'n' grabs and switch thefts, an armed raid would appear to be unlikely, thankfully

The Mayor's store near me requires a visitor to push a button outside the store to enter. The Tiffany store next door doesn't.

I was just at Tourneau and Rolex (Geary's) at the Century City Mall in Los Angeles and the both had armed guards.

The huge guy at the Rolex store really did take interest in me for some reason.

That's a big surprise. The impression I get from the Filipinos here in Calif is that they are very honest people. I had no idea crime was such a problem back in their country.

I'm from Canada and my local AD has an armed guard. It's a huge store with lots of expensive inventory besides Rolex so there is a lot to protect.

In the UK, there are no armed guards. Here in Northern Ireland, it is the only part of the UK where the police carry guns. ADs usually have double doors and security guards.

One of the owners (brothers) of my (former) AD here in RI was shot at during an attempted robbery. The shot missed and the owner returned fire, killing the robber. This happened back in the early 90's.

No armed guards in Australia for anything other then ATM restocking.
Even then they get brought up on criminal charges if they actualy use them.

No guns at my local AD of choice but the shop girls are a dab hand with their handbags & they ain't afraid to use them

That would scare the crap out of me to work as a salesperson at a high end jewelry store, I am amazed how you do it, good luck and hopefully every day you work is safe.

The Jared I purchased my Omega from in Arizona had an armed guard - mid/late 50's grey haired portly fella with a wheel-gun...I guess it was more a presence thing...nothing intimidating...but he was there.

The jewelry store across from Tourneau and Cartier at King of Prussia Mall, PA had a HUGE dude standing guard...the guy was about 6'6", no lie...I'm 5'10 and looked wayyy up at him...dude looked ripped, like he could tear you apart with his bare hands.

The Cartier store just has big huge doors that remain closed with a "henchman" looking character inside the door.

Tournea...some schlepp in an oversized suit who was more a greeter than a watchdog...

Has you look from the other jewelry store to Cartier to Tournea, the guards went from finely dressed 275lbs of "rip you apart" to schlepp...sort of funny.

Other than that, they are not common in my area of PA. I'd say it depends on the neighborhood, really.

At the Wynn last week there was one friendly guard for all that inventory. No sidearm...IMHO losing some inventory is preferable to deaths among customers or staff due to errant shots.

My local Dallas AD does have off duty police officers for armed security.

Why is it intimidating? Nothing to worry about if you are not a crook. Just shop with confidence that anyone with bad intentions will move on to the next jewelry store that doesn't have security. :-)

It's all part of the job, unfortunately. Our shop hasn't had an armed raid since we moved into the local shopping centre - one of our previous locations was very isolated, and was the target for a lot of raids. We've had ram raids, attempted smash and grabs, and the worst was when someone disguised as a postman pulled out a sawn-off shotgun and demanded all the Rolexes. That incident in particular really shook up the staff, and convinced the previous owner that it was time to take an early retirement. Hopefully we won't have to experience anything like that again, but it is a risk we have to take

Interesting about Geary's in Century City, I don't recall seeing armed guards there but it's been several months since I've been there. Sounds like they're tightening up their security.

The AD I go to has always had armed off duty police officers in their uniforms by the front door to keep an eye on everybody. And usually the new ones give me the evil eye till they get to know me!!!

There is no such thing. Team members are on call and have a max time of 2hrs to report when called. I would imagine you meant retired or contractors (Triple Cannopy, Sarasen int. etc). When you r in the Navy (no matter what yiur specialty) you can't have a 2nd job.
