TRF's chess club

Greetings TRF,

I was wondering if anybody around here liked to play chess. I must say I'm far from being the best in town but I've been to a couple of tournaments and I quite enjoy playing a little game with my friends or relatives from times to times. The fact that there are so many possibilities and moves to calculate involved in different pieces moving on a simple 8 x 8 board makes this game very interesting to me!

Now I know a lot of people think it's nothing but a nerdy game (I've heard this one quite often) but I thought that if some people really enjoyed it we could have a thread to talk about it and perhaps organize games!

Who's in?

Don't worry Eddie, we'll have 6 Bishops as usual.

Glad to know I'm not the only one here!

Good idea Carl,

I'm in - but go easy on me as my Ruy Lopez opening and Sicilian defence manoeuvres are both a little rusty.

I'm in Carl! There's a great app for the iPhone/iPad called Chess.com.

My nickname is Sweranuc (misspelled it ). Download it and tell me your nickname and I can invite you for a 5min +2sec game

If you want some inspiration, check out the video below. Bobby Fischer, as a 13-year-old, beating fellow chess master Donald Byrne. Bobby sacrifices his queen in that game and still wins! Truly sensational

Been playing chess my whole life. Do you guys have the Chess With Friends app for the iPhone or other smart phones? It's free and I'd love to play some games with more people.

I love the game, but am not great, and haven't played in a long time. Always looking to get back into it.

Hold your horses and don't rook around with me.

I play(ed) a teensy bit.

Glad to know a couple of us are in for some fun!

I'll take a look on the net to find an online chess website (for those of us who would prefer to play on their computer rather than a smartphone or someting else), I'll keep you updated!

Used to play a lot when I was younger and was captain of the school chess team. Never really studied it properly though. Remember getting spanked by some girl at a tournament. and realised I wasn't much good.

Gotta be the greatest game of all time. Doubt some kids nowadays even bother with it. Too busy blowing the crap out of each other on Call of Duty.

Just watched that Bobby Fischer game, thanks Carl amazing.

Okay.

GO!

Choose you opponent, place your move on the canvass,

Use Photoshop to make your moves - unless anyone has a better idea about 'how to do it'!

Carl, ...

As you thought this up...you're white and it's your move...

FeelingTheLove...But you're going to lose this one...

Sounds like a good plan James but I'm afraid I don't have photoshop!

Go to http://chessdiag.org/ Move the piece, press actualise, view real pic, then cut and paste as a pic.

Right lets get some teams together.
