Wow, I love the idea of consolidating and having 3 main pieces to go to but how long will that last? I would consolidate all but 4 watches. With the 3 you add that will be a 7 watch rotation. I just don't think 3 will satisfy you. IMHO. Not matter how nice they are.

I have an OK sized collection, and rotate my watches on a regular basis. I have two basic types of watches in my watch box. One I enjoy wearing and look forward to putting on, the other, I only wear to get them some fresh air and can't wait to change it out for one of those I like to wear. I would suggest getting rid of those that fall under type 2. I should do the same!

but here is a good sampling...

some of the action shots also let you put things into perspective...

The TT DJ - RG

the Vintage (1976) DJ

GMTc

Bluesy

The Pres

Tag aquaracer

Breitling bentley motors T

the Omegas

This 'old thing'

Liquid Metal

the Breguet

Black TTsubc

some in the wild shots...

The Pam

the DJ II

Wow, I'm exhausted...

I don't have any shots yet of the Hulk or the Cartiers...
Will have to update the photo Album...

great pics. It seems like you have been to some cool exotic locales.

Its awesome that you still wear each one.

I would still trim the collection a bit.

Keep us posted on what you decide!

Your consolidated list looks too small. If you're wearing all your current watches in a rotation, that tells me you like wearing a broad array of watches - - just maybe not THIS array.

Since you're not "married" to most of your watches (and probably getting tired of many of them), I suggest selling all those, making sure you use great photography. When you finally have your stash of cash, start buying again with a plan in mind, but maybe only 40%-50% of the number of watches you sold, and making sure you can see yourself wearing each one for a very long time.

I really don't think you'll be satisfied wearing a half dozen watches, no matter how great they are.

I love this idea...I wish and hope I can find the courage to do it...

It's like that classic desire - if you could only do it all over, only knowing then, what you know now...

I would definitely do a few things differently...

there are a few 'grails' that I could have had for what I've spent on impulse buys....

but I don't regret any of them...

and... there are some that I couldn't "do over" - eg I paid 5200 for my GMTc BNIB from and AD..... If I regretted that sale I would pay dearly for it...

one benefit of having such a large collection is that they are all pretty much near-mint...

I think that I will resolve to be more controlled in my future acquisitions...

I have convinced myself that each piece fills a unique void in my collection..
but I find myself creating voids that need to be filled...like "the absence of a 'green' watch"...
or "the lack of watches without an 'Orange hand'"...

I think this is the goal moving forward ...

I find that the expense and elitist nature of a time piece is of transient value to me...

no matter how many high end pieces I add - some days I love putting the SMP on....

some days I wear an old seiko that I have...

But definitely I have resolved to stop the impulse buys...

my next new watch post will be one of the grails...

or maybe a deepsea....

Let's say you die tommorrow. A bus runs you down in the street, or a piece of Skylab falls out of the heavens and lands on your head. Is your wife going to know the correct market pricing for your collection, piece by piece? Even if you did give her a list to work from, you'd need to keep that updated all the time, and the average market prices of collectibles vary. There's a very good chance that if she had to liquidate the sizable collection you now have, she'd take somewhat of a loss from just not having enough knowledge to price everything correctly. With a smaller collection, there's still a chance she may not get the maximum possible out of each piece, but you can take a lot of the proceeds from the many watches you have now and invest them in something that might actually offset the losses from the sale of the smaller, nicer collection. Or, she might not want to part with the smaller collection at all. If there were only four or five watches left behind, they'd mean more than the twenty two in your current list. I don't mean to be morbid, but it's an angle we seldom consider.
Well said. This is something I thought about too but have not put any action to it. I cannot imagine my wife doing an estate sale and selling off my MM300 or 6105 for $200

So what I did now is to take a pic of my each watch and save it under a filename that shows my purchase price. In this way, wife should not be too far off in pricing my watches.

Maybe the next thing I should do is to do up a "HTML FS post" so that she can cut and paste on the sale forums when needed.
