Despite how gloomy a discussion this is, it is interesting to know the origins of "the last meal" and how it became a procedure in the US in particular.

I do not believe this happens anywhere else.

No death sentence in the UK, thank the gods.

If I were on death row USA, I'd ask for deep fried Governor.

I can't imagine that I'd have much of an appetite, but some green chile and chicken enchiladas and some iced tea would be good.

I do not believe this happens anywhere else.
It's probably a dying trend after this:

Texas ends special last meals on death row

Great choice and I cooked one Sunday night!!!

I'll play as I like this thread. I'd have to go with a wet aged bone in Ribye or filet (tough choice) a boiled lobster and scalloped potatoes.

Useful trivia the most requested meal is a burger and fries with a beer but many prisons won't allow the beer. I saw that in Maxium. I guess if I'd been locked up for 15-20 years the burger might top the steak. I don't know how I could even eat though.

You know, I really don't know what I would want, probably just some fresh warm bread with butter and a bottle of red wine, but do you think I could dine "al fresco"? I want to get a little bit of air before I die. Set up that bistro table outside the jail, and I will head out in my stripes for my last meal haha

Our local pizza place had the best smoked oyster pizza... but sadly, removed it from the menu because hardly anyone ever ordered it.

Now, if alcohol were allowed as part of a last meal, then we'd be talking.

I think the right question you can ask is not "what" you would eat, but "who" you would dine with.
