Icon13 Excess cyclops glue

I've had my Sub for almost two months now and I've always noticed that there's excess glue around my cyclops. Way to go Rolex . Anyway, I finally got tired of looking at it, so with my fingernail and a toothpick I was able to scrape the extra glue from the crystal. WOW - WHAT AN IMPROVEMENT!!! I now have a VERY DEFINED cyclops!!! I never realized before how sloppy it looked until now. Here's a before pic... you'll have to wait a few hours for an after pic.

Notice the excess glue around the cyclops

Wow, that sucks, Jeff!

I have never experienced this problem with any of the nine SS Sub Dates I have owned, but Rolex QC really slipped there, didn't it??

Good thing you got it fixed!

Are you sure that's excess glue and not just muck, Jeff?

Try some soap, water and a toothbrush. Should get it off and clean as a whistle!!

You know I keep my Rollie cleaner than that . It was definitely glue. It was crystal clear and hard as a rock. Took me about an hour to scrape it all off.

I think I might have the same problem on my new plexi crystal . I have noticed at the bottom there is something there which isn't dirt , but I am going to try JJ's meathod before I get the toothpick out.

Jeff, does the photograph make it look worse than it did in "real life"?

The reason I'm asking is that looks so bad that I'm surprised you didn't notice when you bought it.

I'm planning on buying a white Exp II later this week. My AD has three of them. I'm going to line them up and inspect each one carefully with a loupe, per JJ's instructions, just to avoid problems like this.

You need to be VERY CAREFUL with your acrylic crystal. They scratch VERY EASILY. You might be better off with a little bit of glue than several scratches. My crystal is sapphire, so I didn't have to worry about scratching it.

Hi Jeff,

Looking at the photos of the watch when you first got it, does look like it has any excessive glue?

It's more noticeable in the pic above... the sun light is hitting it just right. You can barely tell with the naked eye.

Look closely at the top of the cyclops. You can also see some excess glue on the left side.

toothpick's a great idea. Of course, a toothbrush, warm water and some mild soap oughta have helped somewhat as well...... Nice work Jeff.

This stuff was WAAAAY too tough for that. I regularly clean my Sub with a warm water, soap, and a toothbrush. They wouldn't even come close to budging the glue.

Furry muff. Good stuff though - a toothpick has just enough give but more than enough punch to move stubborn glue. I had the front crystal of my watch rub against some old mangy rubber - that took forever to get off with a toothbrush!!!
