This is the problem with forums, people just start spewing "information" that they never back up as if it is real.

I personally doubt 200 Rolex watches are sold there every day, on average but then again I don't know and neither does anyone here, imo.

Yes you are right, only 99,000 Mercedes were sold on Hong Kong/China while Germany saw 128,000 sold.

One cannot believe the buying power of the mainland Chinese. They would go into shops like LV and ask for their current range; then they pick one or two out, which most tourists would do, but instead the Chinese would buy the rest of the range instead.

In the 70's and 80's tour guides would pay tour operators to take out Japanese tours because they could earn so much commissions from the shops where they take the tourists to. I would give a guess these days the Chinese tourists have buying power 10 times that of the Japanese.

In the UK there is a retail outlet village in Bicester. Last few years the place has been propped up by the Chinese tourists and Chinese students studying in the UK.

u dont need proof to back this up, they have a very different culture there in china/hong kong, watches ARE status symbols and people walk in and buy gold watches without asking for discount like its nothing NOT just SS airkings, and the fact that mainland china DOES charge a 30% luxury tax, 200 per day makes sense

feel free to call me ignorant, but i know my own people =)

I've heard that HK is the biggest market for rolex.

Here in UAE, the most active Rolex store sell 80,000 to 90,000 watch yearly (Dubai Mall)

Moreover, you can find Rolex stores in any mall / active area in UAE.

Just came back from a trip to Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong.

Picked up a 41m SS Datejust in the AD in Harbour City shopping centre in Kowloon. This is a very big AD with lots of stock - especially the bling versions (but no SS subs !!!)

This area is a WIS paradise, dedicated rolex store, a AP AD, another store which sell all major brands include Rolex just outside, a Pam AD and others.

Stayed at the Langham - which is well located.

Saved a significant amount vs AD in Australia.

According to this Bloomberg article, Chinese buys up to half of the watches sold world wide, either in their home market, HK, or other countries.
