nah, just kidding. but onto the heart of the matter...i saw this thread earlier in its early stages and kind of laughed. seemed like the consensus 3 pages ago was to just let it go, let them think what they want, etc.

seems as if this kind of occurrence happens to many people and some people feel the need to protect the honor of their wrists. some more passionately than others

but really...at the end of the day, do you really care if some jackass who's an acquaintance of someone you don't really even like thinks it's fake? Do you need to prove to someone your watch is real because having a fake watch means that perhaps you either:

1. Haven't "made it" enough to wear a real Rolex.
2. Are too proud to wear something fake?
3. Perhaps place/project your own worth on material things that you can show off to other people to feel that you're better than them?


At the end of the day, it is a watch. It should be special to you because it means something to you personally. Whether the brand is Seiko, Omega, AP, Rolex or Folex or Romex. Who cares. If it's a piece of you, it shouldn't matter. You love it and you're passionate about your watch for your own reason.

and about being a "tough guy" at a bar to prove your point, think about how much resale value dips from that ding on your case from making contact on someone's chin. if you really want to get them, you back hand-slap the mother f...er and leave a fluted bezel print across his cheek to show everyone who the b*tch is now.

totally kidding about the last paragraph. But I do subscribe to my reason #4 as to why i tell people my watch is legit. (again, just kidding)

obviously it is not a fake and i wonder why pple say that of their own watches.

I posted earlier in this thread about how others will likely take your style of dress and overall mannerisms into account when judging you. We're all guilty of it, men just aren't as keen on judging women as we'd like to believe, especially when it comes to clothing and accessories.

Without turning this thread into a battle of the sexes, I think women (not worthwhile ones, of course) are more likely to fall for the boisterous chest beating behavior of the bully described in your story as worthwhile women will notice you more if you are quiet an confident.

Lashing out at your passenger would have only brought you down to his (low) level. There's something to be said for a gentleman in this day and age.

I could understand your frustration because there really isn't any great way to handle a situation like that. Sounds like a jealous guy trying to get a laugh out of the crew / ladies at your expense, in hopes that you lose your cool. Probably the best thing to do is smile and give him a sarcastic thumbs up "thanks buddy".

I do like the idea, of offering a wager. Imagine this scenario:

Him: "that's a fake Rolex, they don't even make that model"
You: "Darn is it really, I thought it was real? I'll tell you what, I'll make you a bet it's real and the loser pays for the entire groups bill tonight. *then you get the crowd/group involved* Wouldn't that be awesome everyone?"

I think anyone who ask that kind of question or worse, tell someone their Rolex is fake is:
1) very shallow, they evaluate everything through outward appearance
2) Has no social grace or class whatsoever
3) No knowledge of what a real Rolex looks like

You know, it strikes me as a little shortsighted to suggest you should consider engaging a drunk in a potentially physical conflict, over this. It's not about turning the other cheek, its more about the fact that people end up dead from such confrontations. As adults, you don't have the relative safety and innocence of a minor schoolyard fight, you are risking your life, or his, or a bystander over something incredibly silly. Or, a battery charge, and/or civil suit. Not worth it.

I can protect myself, better than average, let's just leave it at that. I value my life, and even a dumbass drunk's too much to start on a potentially deadly path because he said my watch was fake.

Ending up dead, injured, arrested, sued, etc. is quite a price to pay for pride and misguided masculinity IMO. Arguably a real man fights when it's necessary, this situation hardly qualifies.

C'Mon MAAAAN!!! You know that the watch is real...isn't that enough? A drunk sees your watch shows it to others declares it a fake and you take it seriously?

Just laugh it off, take a deep breath and don't worry about it. Get them safely to their homes and call it a day. Keep wearing your 'fake' Rolex whenever you're out with them - assuming you enjoyed their company enough to hang out with them (Rolex episode notwithstanding).

Can you imagine how ridiculous it is for an adult man to quit hanging out with otherwise enjoyable company because someone in the group incorrectly labeled your watch a "Fake" Rolex?

I can understand how such an episode can be seen as a personal attack and a directed insult, but considering the circumstance, location, company etc...is it really worth getting upset over?

I know you are deriving more enjoyment from your DSSD than these people can rob from you with their inane comments, so just chill...enjoy the fruits of your labor...and move on...
