They just look different in pictures...

I know this subject has been discussed to death, but, I shouldn't let that stop me. If folks were only able to post original theories, internet forums would needs lots less storage...

With that said, as an owner of a Sub Date, there was a small part of me that was keeping an eye open towards an upgrade to the new model w/ ceramic bezel.

After spending some time with one the other day, I was left feeling really great about the watch I have. In pictures I really like the look of the ceramic bezel and larger case. In person there is just a little too much bling in the new model for my taste. It is just a little less "tool like" than the one I own. Finally, the size of the 16610 seems just right to me.

That isn't to say that the 116610 isn't incredibly impressive. I've just decided that for now, it isn't for me.

So... instead of new 116610... I'm going to set my sights on keeping my 16610 and finding a 14060. Isn't this a great hobby? :)

Ahh, it's a relief isn't it? Meaning now you know FOR SURE that the new Sub isn't for you. Makes all the difference in the world to see pieces in real life!

But you are slightly bias, I wonder if a newbie would feel the same way?
Would he rather go old school or get the latest bad boy?

Glad your happy with yours

Agree. Seeing it in the flesh is a whole new world compared to just drooling over pictures on the net. The same happened to me on the 216570. Loved the picutres, did nothing for me when I saw it in the metal. No offense to those who love the 216570.

Absolutely! I completely agree. Great companies that produce consumer products are able to strike the perfect balance of the respect and tradition of the brand and being able to innovate and stay fresh in the market place in which peoples tastes are always changing.

It is why I like the great German car makers. When you look at a new 3 Series BMW you are able to to see a whisper of a '68 2002 in them. And, if you've driven both cars, you can see the faint trace of one of the original sports sedans in the new model. When you drive a new 911 you can see in it its roots in the model from almost 5 decades ago.

This is the case with Rolex. When you see the 116600 there is no doubt that it is a Rolex. My 22 year old son would certainly prefer the new model, and, maybe someday I will too. I would love a DSSD.... :)

I actually prefer the new model because of the extra bling. For me the SubC is a jewelry piece. I'll never use it for diving so the fact that it's less of a "tool" type of watch than it used to be - doesn't bother me.

That being said, I can see where Sub purists and particularly divers, would prefer the old style.

Same thing happened to me with DD2. I was excited about the watch in photos, but ended up buying the DD in rose gold, and loving it on my wrist.

But it's nice to KNOW rather than guess.

I'm newbie and prefer new vs. old, that's why I went with DJII over DJ.

Good idea to set your sights elsewhere. Looking at your existing collection, and before you settle on a 14060, have you eliminated a GMT already?
